Meds After Surgery

Recommended Posts

Hi There! I'm *finally* getting my sleeve on Oct.15th and I have a question my doc has not given me a straight answer on- What did you use for pain after surgery? Are you allowed to swallow pills? What about my thyroid pill? I know I can open up the nexium and sprinkle it on a bit of applesauce, but what about pain pills? Ambien? I need my sleeping pill and thyroid for sure and probably pain meds too. Any responses would be greatly appreciated!

I was given dillaudid, which was an awesome pain pill.. and very tiny. I swallowed it fine. I also was okay swallowing my two prescriptions, which are both small. I used a chewable Vitamin. I'd say big pills... no. But if they're small.. you'll be okay.

How do you swallow any pills if you can only sip sip sip? When i take my small ones, i still need a couple big gulps to get it down. :(

Still looking for answers. Anyone have any thoughts on this topic?? You need a lot of Water to swallow thyroid pills and my doc told me to take it w/a sip of water on the day of surgery. I thought it could get stuck in your throat and swell up that's why the bottle says to drink w/a full glass of water. now I'm not sure what to do.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
