Kidney Stones and the Sleeve

Recommended Posts

I've seen a doctor about lap band surgery and he said the Gastric Sleeve would be better for me. I've had Kidney Stones since the age of 15 and I've had 8 surgeries and now I'm 46. I really want the surgery because I can't do it on my own...I've tried EVERYTHING! I'm looking for someone with Kidney Stones that has had this Gastric Sleeve to see how they are doing with it. My doctor said there will be no problems but I'm just scared.

The gastric sleeve shouldn't have anything to do with kidney stones.

People are more susceptible to gallstone formation after rapid sudden weight loss, but not kidney stones.

You shouldn't have any issues with kidney stones unless it's related to dietary issues. You might want to consult a nutritionist to ensure that you'll be able to keep your kidney values in check while going through the post-op dietary changes that we all endure.

This thread is a good reminder for me. I haven't been drinking enough Water and I know that is a recipe for kidney stones for me. Thanks for bringing this up! Gotta drink lots of water!

Hydration. That will be it. The first little while that will be your only objective in life. To sip frequently enough to stay hydrated. This feels like eternity, but then one day you are able to take real drinks of Water and things get WAY easier. You should be just fine, but obviously only the advice from your NUT and surgeon can ensure your safety.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
