hello

im now two months and a bit since i got the surgery and now im eating normal food. i noticed that if i eat junk food i never get the pain in my tummy from restriction, however if i eat good/healthy/normal food i cant go pass three to four bites and im in total pain.

for example, when i experimented, i was able to eat 5 bags of lays potatoe chips, two chocolate bars and mango juice in one setting, i started to feel the pain only when i drank the juice.( this was only for my experimental purposes, i dont eat this at all) i did this experiment cuz my friend who also had the sleeve pointed this out to me.

however when at dinner, i ate my normal food which was broccolli and chicken breasts, i was only able to eat 3 spoonfulls till i was in pain and couldnt eat anymore.

has anyone else experienced this? especially with lays potatoe chips. im able to eat loads of it without feeling anything! weird, your insights please.

I would be terrified to do an experiment like that!

At 2 months out, that's pretty much how it should be. Potato chips for example are considered a "slider" food. Meaning it passes through the stomach easily and quickly. Dense Protein on the other hand stays in your stomach longer, thus keeping you full longer.

That's why you have to remember that the sleeve is just a tool. It's still up to you what you eat. Eat the right things and you'll lose, eat the wrong things and you'll gain.

As time goes on, you will be able to eat more dense Protein, etc. But, like I said, at 2 months a few bites should fill you up.

Potato chips can be chewed down to nothing. You can fit a lot of potato chip dust in a sleeve. Globbed up chicken, another story.

That is a dangerous game being played. Of course it's easier to eat crap you chew it down to nothing. Even with a normal stomach I could woof down 6 bags of chips and a gallon of ice cream but I'd be hard pressed to each the same quantity of meat and veg.

The purpose of having your stomach cut out is to provide the opportunity for eating behavioral change. Scientific study or not, stuffing down five bags of chips doesn't help.

Just a little off topic, but not totally random...

Yesterday I went to a networking meeting at Paradise Cafe. I hadn't had lunch and it was already 2pm and I was hungry. The thing that sounded the best was the small crumbly bleu cheese salad. (I hadn't had lettuce yet since pre-op). Well, I ate a few bites to test it. No problem. Incidentally, the lettuce was chopped pretty well, came with cranberries, bleu chees and sunflower seeds. I kept eating it. No pain, no problems. However, I figured I would stop when I got to my "point" which I can't explain but I know it when I get there---and no--it's not a discomfort, just a certain point of satisfaction, not really even a fullness.

Well, I finished the damn salad and never got to that point. Of course, when it was gone, I didn't eat anything else. But I felt fine. And I lost a half a lb this morning even though my caloric intake was probably about 800-900 cal yesterday, and my day was so packed I didn't get the exercise in. Weird.

For dinner, around 6:30, I ate a 3 oz of lunch meat turkey heated with El Pato sauce and melted cheddar. (I can do no sugars and less than 30 carbs a day, but I refuse to eat low fat.) As soon as I was done, I got my "point", had my hiccup and was done.

Considerably less by volume than my small salad.

My point...(although I took the long route to make it) is that people are correct. You fill up faster on dense Protein. But I was thrilled to enjoy my salad. I can't describe how much I enjoyed it, but have you heard the "O" word? (j/k)

Just the other day, I mentioned how much I was missing my salads as I hadn't tried them yet and I've seen people write here that their docs add lettuce to their diets last.

Made my day!!

GG

hi -- my doctor told me of one of his patients who had a sleeve and she was well over 400 pounds and she constantly ate potato chips and the like and lost only 30 pounds -- so you can not lose weight if you decide to eat nutritionally void food. That's why we're always told repeatedly that the sleeve is not the answer, it's a tool  Hope that helps!

WOW!! I had no idea. I am soooo excited. I love salads. And I read on this forum that it doesn't go down easily. So I was so shocked how easy it went down. Of course, I am 7 weeks post op so I am sure that makes a difference. I cannot tell you how much I enjoyed that salad. I almost bought a second one to bring home!:w00t:

I actually find that when I try sweets (don't care for other kinds of junk food), while they go down easily, I get taste fatigue very fast. My boyfriend got a ton of candybars as a gift the other day and I thought, why not have a few bites of a Mars bar. Well, the first bite tasted good, the second one was a-ok, and after the 3rd one, I was in the mood for a cucumber instead. Same thing with Dairy Queen soft serve and other sweets I used to enjoy. I have a few bites and they start to taste gross. There's no way I could eat 2 candybars right now, even if I might have enough volume in my stomach (thank god). These candybars are still in the house and while mentally, I want some, I recall the experience, and go for carrot sticks or a few slices of pear instead.

Hi, I'd never try an experiment like that I mean it is just so self destructive.

I actually thought this post was a joke when I first read it.. like spam or something??!!

Georgie.. that is GREAT about the salads! Good for you! I don't think we all got fat eating salads, so it's great you can enjoy something like that that's healthy and you love.

Blackberry... I was/am totally into sweets!!!! If I could be like you, I would LOVE it! Here's hoping!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
