What is WRONG WITH ME???

Recommended Posts

I think I may have had a set back tonight :) ...I can't explain it really, just that I feel sad and a somewhat scared and tired. Scared because I really don't care to eat food at all. I'm sick of basically everything in this mushie stage. I feel no hunger. Everything is just BLAH. I move to all foods next Thursday, and I'm worried that all foods will have this same effect on me. I'm really trying to stay positive, it's just soooooo hard. IS THIS NORMAL at this point?? so close to the all food stage??? Has anyone gone through this at my same stage?? I know I've heard it will pass, but WHEN?????? I almost feel like I did (emotionally) the first week out of surgery. What's wrong with me??? sniff, sniff.

Thanks for listening and letting me vent :( .

I'm sorry you're having a bad day. :( I wonder if food used to bring you endorphins that made you feel good and now you're not getting them, kwim? I am wondering if I will have the same issue too..because i generally DO love food and find satisfaction in what i eat. Theoretically it's wonderful to not 'have' to be hungry or think about food all the time, but if it's not even ENJOYABLE part of the time, it's kind of like grieving, if that makes any sense at all. There's a comfort that's lost. :(

Hope you get past this stage soon and maybe once you are able to eat all foods, you'll begin to enjoy the process a little more.

Chin up, you're moving along great. :)

Baby girl I think you are perfectly NORMAL. I too feel the same way about food as you do. I was so happy to be cleared to start eating some veggies and fruits. When I cooked some fresh green Beans the other day all I could have was three strings and the whole time I was thinking is these are not as good as I remember. :sad0: I've tried some apples, pears and plums. I even tried chewing some gum and after about 5 mins I can't hardly wait to throw it out.

NOTHING TASTE GOOD!!!!! I WOULD RATHER NOT EAT!!!!! :(:(

I too am wondering when food taste GOOD again.:)

I am HAPPY I am losing weight, but sad about what small amounts of food I am eating does not taste good.

I still have bad days once in a while even though I've been on "normal" food for a while, as peatie says I know that I used to get a "high" when I eat and that doesn't happen anymore. When I feel bad I either a)come on this forum :) go and do some exercise or c) go and try some clothes on that didn't used to fit me and then I realise that the positives outweigh the negatives! Good luck and hope you feel better soon! (before surgery even though I felt good eating I had really bad days feeling fat and guilty because of my overeating!)

You are very NORMAL ... I think many of us go through this.

For me personally, the "high" of having surgery was over. food didn't taste as good, and the real "work" was kicking in. There was a mourning for "real" food and "normal" portions. But, it will pass. I'm a little over 8 months today. I'm eating anything I want (in smaller portions of course) ... if it weren't for the restriction, I could easily forget that I had surgery.

It's hard to imagine right now ... but this too shall pass.

We are all cheering for you!

I think it's normal also. I remember at this stage feeling like, now that I'm not really eating, what do I do with my time? It was an empty feeling of needing to replace the pleasure of food with something else, almost like a mourning period that I didn't expect. I guess being addicted to food took a lot more time than we thought, and now we don't know what to do with ourselves!

It passes though, and pretty soon you'll find you don't even think about food anymore, and eating is just a means to rid hunger and give you energy...you're just fine, woman.

P.S.....going to see Dr. Zane today for follow up!

I think for many of us food is our "best friend" for so long. Of course we're in mourning. I'm trying to think of it like a loss. And I think TIME will help. I'm so glad you're having a better day today! We're all here next time you need pepping up again! :)

I'm totally in this same boat right now, nothing sounds good, nothing tastes good, nothing even SMELLS good. It's kinda hard not to freak out. I know it'll pass but food literally sickens me for the most part and I'd rather just abstain entirely even though I know I can't. I even try to play this game where I imagine if I could eat whatever I wanted, what would be good... And nothing!

The scale goes down every day but lately my morale does with it :)

I made this awesome broccoli potato Soup today.. just pureed it and everything. Dished myself a 1/4 cup in a small dish. One sip.. kinda done with it. I agree. Do NOT feel like eating at all! Feel Like I should go back to Clear Liquids, I felt better! lol... Stomach just feels WEIRD! icky. how do we get our nutrition in if we're like this?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
