Unique Though

Recommended Posts

Recently I walked up to a store that had two glass doors; side by side. The right door had a sign with an arrow pointing to the left door and the words "Use Other Door".

I used the left door and then told the proprietor that the sign was incorrect. He asked "Why is it incorrect? It says to use the left door."

I told him that the sign said to use the right door. If the sign points to a door and then says to use the other door, it is saying to use the "other" door (instead of) the door that it is pointing to.

To prove it, I made the inquiry: "if the sign on the right door had said 'Use that door' and the arrow pointed to the left, which door would be the correct one to use?"

The proprietor answered, "the left door".

So I asked, "If the words 'Use other door' and 'Use that door' both mean 'use left door', then aren't you claiming that the word 'other' means the same thing as the word 'that'."

If "Use other door" equals "Use that door", since "use" equals "use" and "door" equals "door", then "other" must equal "that".:)

Think about it.

My husband always says that "military intelligence" is an oxymoron.....he would understand the way you think, lol.

I have heard many people say things that were incorrect, but still get the right response because both the speaker and listener were equally illogical.

How many times have you heard someone ask, "Do you mind if I sit here next to you?"

The response is, "Yes" and the person sits down.

What was the question?

It was "do you mind"?

The asker of the question acts as if he asked, "may I sit here?"

If I go to the to the movies and my wife went to the restroom and someone asked, "Do you mind if I sit here next to you?", I would say yes and he would sit down. Then I would have to tell him that my wife would be right back.

If someone asks me, "Do you mind if I sit here next to you?", "Yes" means "do not sit" and "no" means, "yes you can sit".

If you want to ask "May I sit here?" then ask "May I sit here?". Do not ask "Do you mind if I sit here next to you?" when you mean "May I sit here?"

The word "May" does not equal the words "Do you mind".

Just because many times, the person that answers the question is just as inattentive to proper usage as the person that asks the question, does not make it right.

You bring up a correct point, there or lots of funnies like, Is this seat occupied? When no one is there? You really mean has this seat been claimed, or is anyone sitting here? Should we answer I cant see anyone there right now?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
