So I had my first food nightmare last night. I dreamed I ate an entire Subway turkey footlong and nearly killed myself. It was pretty brutal.

These days most things are making me nauseous so I've found myself literally afraid to eat/try new things. Anyone else deal with this? How'd those of you further out get past it? Food and I used to be the best of friends, and now we're definitely enemies. How does one declare a truce?

Literally frightened of my yogurt. It's staring right back at me. Help.

It probably still hurts to eat quite a few things. I didn't start feeling like I could handle most foods till I was 5 months out. I'm one week away from 6 months, and just started eating salads about 2 weeks ago, but really chew the daylights out of it.

I still can't eat bread or any kind of wheat stuff..get's stuck.

That was my main reason for choosing the sleeve over gastric bypass. I know I will be afraid of food to begin with ....the last thing I needed was to add the fear of dumping into the mix.

Does everything make you feel bad? Are you okay with the liquid drinks? I'm 2 weeks away from being sleeved and I've talked to about 8 people in our local support group. Most of them had very little trouble adding foods back into their diets but they did it very slowly, adding 1 bite at a time. Most of them are in the 4 to 6 month stage and say they are just now getting back to feeling "normal".

For the most part things are okay initially, and then they turn on me. For example, cottage cheese was going great and then suddenly it made me super queasy one time and now I can't stand the sight of it. I guess I'm just stuck between holding back out of fear, or pushing forward trying to find balance. A fellow sleever friend thought maybe my body was grossed out by all this mush and I should see if I can handle soft foods. Could that even be possible at 10 days out though? Totally scared to even try.

Its probably best not to go off your surgeon's post op diet schedule. I'm 14 days out now and not even close to feeling like I can try puree's. I'd say don't push the envelope that much. You may just set yourself back even longer by doing that.

Hang in there, you are not alone with how you're feeling. I'm still having trouble just eating thicker soups! But every day really does get easier and easier.

I'm 10 days out as well and into the thick liquid, etc... phase. I was excited to add yogurt and milk to my mix but the last 2 days my stomach gets really upset. I don't know if it's b/c I'm adding food OR because my body currently doesn't like the dairy products. It liked them just fine before and it would make no sense for it to like it now. It better start liking them soon. I do not want to loose yogurt and have to start drinking soy milk.

I can't wait to get to real food though this also scares me! However I welcome feeling full...this liquid/mushy phase I honestly can't tell if I'm really full or not. Maybe that sounds stupid but my head isn't getting a message from my stomach. I stop eating so I don't throw up but I still feel a little hungry.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
