Recommended Posts

Hello All,

Well since I am in school at nite I can't make any of the support meetings so this is it for me.

I just got off Clear liquids and onto regular foods I go. Well yesterday was my first day, did ok had tuna no bread and a hard boiled egg then for dinner went to wendy's had chilli and manderine oranges, not too bad right?? Than in the middle of the nite got up ate ice cream BAD!! I no and can't figure out why i did it. Since off the Clear Liquids its the the world is open again. I don't no what to eat low fat low carb which diet to follow how much to eat, what to eat. I got on the scale this AM and gained 2 pounds in the matter of a day!!! I haven't gotten a fill yet nor have I gotten sick at all. So I am confused you no the liquid phase was easier I new what I could eat only a few things and that was it and the weight came off 1 pound a day, now I feel as if I am eating the weight is gonna come right back on and the band well I really don't even feel anything???

:faint:

I'm pretty new to this, and have the same kind of struggle.

Have you considered your TOM, are you doing any exercising? :boxing:These are both high variables...and if you are exercising, keep in mind that muscle weighs more then fat. Could it also be the Water weight is gone, and the rest we have to work for. That's where I feel i am.

I lost 40 pounds in 4 weeks...now I'm at my first plateau. My first fill is in 11 days, and I can't weight!!...ummm, I mean wait!

Don't be too hard on yourself, my dear. :cry it will come off eventually! When I started to feel discouraged, I found pictures of some of my LBT buddies showing their progress. Many lost only 6-8 pounds/month! And struggling along, they are looking fantastic, and staying the path.:biggrin1:

Have a good rest of the day! :)

Hi this is my first post, I hope I'm doing it right. I have not been banded but am highly considering it. the nutritionist at the sugeons office said that if I could get control of my emotional eating my weight would come off naturally. But, I am so tired of losing and gaining the same 40 lbs. and that's not incloding the other 60 that I need to lose. I know you still have to work at it, my saving grace is that I exercise, so that's a plus, but I don't know if should go through this pain and something so drastic or if I should sit through another WW meeting and hear how this is everyone's 5th or 6th time on WW. Any advice?

Cheryl,

It's not uncommon to gain a pound or 2 or 3 when you transition back to solid foods. Remember, you've been on liquids or semi-liquids for the last few days or weeks. Basically, your body holds on to them by holding them in your intestines as bulk. You're not really gaining weight it's just in your intestines and it looks on the scales as if you've gained weight.

Be careful about weighing yourself every day. It's not a good habit to get into. You'll find yourself in exactly the panic-like situation your in right now. Set a time frame, whether it's every week or every month and stick to it. Weighing to frequently only puts us in a mental mode that makes us fear failure and quite frankly puts us at risk for poor food choices as a result of not seeing what we want to see on the scale.

Regarding your question of what to eat..........well, unless your band doesn't allow you to eat it, eat what you want to (within reason of course). So, you had an ice cream treat last night. Big deal. As long as you don't have a big bowl of ice cream EVERY NIGHT. The bandster guidelines are very generalized, stating make quality or healthy choices. This is NOT supposed to be a diet, although some do diet. It's up to you. You can find a diet plan, if that's what makes you feel better. Personally, since the band restricts my portions, I do my best to make good, low fat, low cal choices MOST OF THE TIME. But, I do allow myself treats ONCE IN A WHILE, as long as that "once in a while" doesn't turn into every day. The band is about learning healthy eating habits, making better choices. I would recommend, whether you decide to follow a diet plan or not, to do a food journal. It helps you keep track of what you're eating both calorie-wise and nutrition-wise.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
