teh ericka 1 Posted September 28, 2010 thanks so much for this! Have you tried the unflavored Unjury?
Oregondaisy 2,021 Posted September 29, 2010 I have tried it and it doesn't bother me. I put it in yogurt. Some people say it does have a weird taste, but I don't think it does. 1 vkmye52 reacted to this
TStew 25 Posted October 31, 2010 Thanks for posting this! I'm pre WLS and I'm trying hard to find some good quality powders without any dangerous chemicals. I'll print this out so I can check out ingredients and Protein amounts. I've been reading a lot about unjury and I just looked it up and I don't like what I see in the ingredients list at all: UNJURY chocolate whey Protein supplement is specifically-designed by a clinical dietitian to deliver Medical Quality Protein. Ingredients: Whey protein isolate fructose (the most pro-diabetic sweetener we can consume. Do they really need this AND artificial chemical sweeteners?) natural and artificial flavors (This could mean ANYTHING and it almost always means MSG or other dangerous additives.) cocoa powder soy lecithin xanthan gum aspartame (a dangerous chemical sweetener that is an excitotoxin that causes brain cancer / tumors and MS symptoms.) acesulfame (ANOTHER dangerous chemical sweetener??) I love the one that I use currently but when I posted about it on the obesityhelp web site I got accused of being a spammer and some girl said that this shake was no good for WLS patients at all. The more I learn, the more I think she was full of crap. Thie shake I like has 14g of protein at 100 calories but I could add another 14g by adding two raw eggs to bring it to 250 calories and 28g of protien. That's a great meal post WLS, isn't it?? Oregondaisy 2,021 Posted October 31, 2010 I personally will not eat or drink anything with aspertame in it . I think it's poison in my book! 5 Margie14, FeeIsMe2, SassyTink and 2 others reacted to this
AutumnLily 77 Posted October 31, 2010 I avoid raw eggs due to the chance of getting Salmonella. But thank you for the other information everyone. Lily
educationrulz 18 Posted November 22, 2010 Where's Jay Robb? His stuff is great and it's whey Protein isolate. I especially love the tropical dreamsicle flavor. I mix mine with part water/milk or part water/OJ. Sometimes I do OJ with Water and milk. I just use the part water to help disolve the powder a little before I add the milk or OJ. I usually let it sit over night in the fridge so the powder is totally disolved. It's yummy! You can also get chocolate, strawberry, vanilla and pina colada. Vitamin Shoppe sells the single serve packets that you can try out to see if you like it. I'm sure GNC has them too. It has 25 gm protein per serving, 1 gm carbs and 0gm sugar, and is made with Stevia. 2 Margie14 and jsrmanatee reacted to this
MRSKOUBiK 27 Posted November 23, 2010 Thanks for sharing. I have a print out of all the different types of powders.. along with their ratings. I was told to go for something as close to 1.0 as I can since it's the highest. If I think about it, I'll scan it to show ya'll
AMLP 4 Posted November 28, 2010 Just tried Nutek Pro 5 in Cookies and Cream flavor.... YUM! Only 2 grams of carbs and 32 grams of Protein per one scoop. Mixed with Water and taste delish! Here's the website or can maybe find in stores. I was so exited to taste something I like. Comes in a variety of flavors. http://www.nuteknutr.../nutek/products
Susanne 32 Posted November 29, 2010 I like the GNC Wheybolic Extreme chocolate. 60g of Protein for 280 calories (93 calories for 20g of protein). It tastes really great. As for raw eggs in a post surgery shake - I am not supposed to have any eggs 6 weeks post surgery so that would be a big fat "No" from my surgeon's office on the Protein Shake enriched with 2 raw eggs. As for "value", 28g of Protein for 250 calories is not really a good meal post WLS. IMHO, it doesn't have enough protein, too many calories and very high cholesterol. angelantx 0 Posted March 28, 2011 i have issues with getting the right consistancy in my Protein Shakes. When I use Unjury and try and add yogurt or frozen fruit...my shake ends up entirely too thick. I also bought the BSN Lean Desert Protein Powder--Chocolate Coconut and It is so thick i can hardly drink it... i mix it with soy milk in the blender on the liquid option and it gets so thick and bubbly I can't even drink it... people talk about adding yogurt and fruit to their shakes...but it has never worked for me. Oregondaisy 2,021 Posted March 29, 2011 It just goes to show you how everyone is different. I don't find the BSN Choc. Coconut to be thick at all. I like it a lot. If you mix it with Water, it wouldn't be thick. Maybe it needs to stand after you have mixed it to let the bubbles go down. There are a lot of people who really like Jay Rob. I am going to try it this weekend. I am going out of town where there will be a Vitamin Shoppe. Keep your reviews coming! We all need this great information! 1 nursing38 reacted to this
samantha209 19 Posted April 3, 2011 i have the GNC pro-performance Cookies and cream and i dont particularly like it. I dont have money to waste on trial and error....my doc recommended the Boost Glucose Control and honestly i do like it, although it's Protein content isnt as high as some of the powders (16g) but i figure post op I will be drinking this for 3 weeks, so I stocked up yesterday. I love reeses so I am considering the whey Gourmet PB chocolate. I hope it's good
Lanette 124 Posted April 3, 2011 I'm surprised Bluebonnet isn't on there I think it tastes awesome....very fine powder and not grainy at all. 1 scoop = 26P, 3Carbs, 116Cal. Ingredients= whey Protein isolate, natural vanilla flavor, stevia extract. It is micro filtered, no artificial sweeteners/flavors. 2 Margie14 and JustSayMoe reacted to this
Susanne 32 Posted April 3, 2011 i have the GNC pro-performance Cookies and cream and i dont particularly like it. I dont have money to waste on trial and error.... You should have just returned it to GNC, they take it back without a problem. If you are thinking of the Gourmet Elite Peanut Butter chocolate, I didn't like that - I didn't like the COokies and Cream you have at all, but I LOVE the chocolate. Don't give up on the Wheybolic Extreme, because you don't like Cookies and Cream. Try the chocolate, I am using that since years, I am not getting tired of it and I love the flavor, texture...yum.
