Artifical Sweetners - which types are ok?

Recommended Posts

So my paperwork from my surgeon says that Splenda is okay, but stay away from Equal and Sweet & Low.

Great.

My question is what about Agave and Stevia? Has anyone heard good or bad about them? I like Stevia in my Decaf coffee and a pinch of Agave Syrup on my greek yogurt.

I will ask my NUT next week, but wondered if anyone has had experience with anything other than Splenda. I haven't had surgery yet.

Thanks!

Agave Syrup has lots of calories, so I definitely wouldn't consider it an artificial sweetener. I assume when your doc mentioned artificial sweeteners, he wanted you to go calorie-free.

Stevia's ok, I find it bitter, but I'm generally sensitive to bitter tastes.

My NUT said Stevia is just fine.

My NUT said Stevia is just fine.

I have been using stevia packets from Trader Joes and it seems a lot less bitter than I remember in the past. I like it. Mild and clean.
