C-Section vs VSG

Recommended Posts

I have had three c-sections in the last three years.. I know that c-sections are painful but I cannot imagine the sleeve being as bad.. Am I wrong? Is the getting sleeved as painful after as a c-section?

Nope. A c-section they are cutting through several layers of muscle and fat. With the sleeve, it's laproscopic, and you really don't feel like a major organ has been amputated.

I've had a c-section as well, and by far the sleeve is way less painful. I had a big belly so I had some gravity pain when trying to sleep on my side. But, other than that, VSG is a breeze compared to a c-section.

Good.. Even if it was as bad as a c-section that wouldn't have changed my mind.. I'm tired of looking pregnant when my baby is a year old.. LOL... Thanks for the reply..

I have had 2 c-sections and was just sleeved last Wednesday. The sleeve was soooo much worse for me initially. The difference is that the pain doesn't last as long. The day of surgery and the two days after were a nightmare. By Saturday I was feeling better and each day has been progressively better.

Sleeve is way easier. I have had two C- sections and I was up walking around 4 hours after the sleeve!!! This is my 5th day post op and Dr. cleared me today for everything as far as physical activity he said I could go back to work. I am an RN and he said dont go to fast but whenever you want to go back he said he would sign the paper work. Since I have the sick bank time I am goint to stay off for another 4 weeks. Might as well use the sick time!!!!

I posted the same thread a few weeks before I have my surgery, and almost everyone said c-section. Honestly the sleeve was much, much worse for me. I hope that's not the case for you. Good luck on your journey and a speedy recovery.

I have had two c-sections. I am going in thinking the sleeve is going to be worse. That way if its not it will be a breeze!

I've had 2 C-sections and a hysterectomy, along with band surgery. I would say my experience with the sleeve was as easy as the band surgery, and much easier than the lower abdominal surgeries. Anytime you have a laproscopic procedure vs. an open one, recovery and pain are usually much less.

I had 3 c-sections,with the last one especially I had no pain at all. So for me the sleeve was worse but just in the inmediate postop, I remember telling the surgeon when I was still half "out" that he lied to me saying that the c-section was worse! I have to say it was only the 1st couple of hours, and it was the pain of gas and tummy discomfort, not pain as in wound pain. I think I had it too easy with my c-sections and I would do the sleeve all over again, the pain isn't bad and the results are incredible!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
