Emotional Band Crisis

Recommended Posts

Help ! can anyone offer any advice? I was banded on April 1st 2006. So far I have had 2 fills and am at 4.4 cc's. I feel like i am eating way to much! What happened to this 60 CC pouch they talked about? I havent seen that yet. The only weight i have dropped is due to the liquid diet i was on for 3 weeks. I am starting to think I am going to be the only FAT girl with a band. I got this band for a reason and that was to lose weight and get my life back. It is hard not being able to walk and hurt all the time and I thought this would help... AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH I dont know what to do!!!!!!!!! I wish i have never gotten it in the first place, I would not have went through this emotional hell. At least then I would not have gotten my hope up that i would lose weight.. I would know I would be FAT always.. I dont know what to do... I hate this.:think :help:

All I can say is hang in there. I am losing slowly as well. I also feel like I can still eat way too much. If you have a 10 cc band it sometimes takes a few fills before you feel restriction. You have to make smart food choices and excersize. The band is your tool, not a magic cure. You have to work with it to make it work. That is what I have been told. Good luck to you and you made a great choice in coming here to ask for help. Everyone here has been a great sore of strength and support. Hang in there and the loss will come.

You are not alone, I have 4.5cc's in my 10cc band as of my first fill on Monday. The swelling gave me great restriction at first, but now the swelling is gone and once again I can eat more than I should be able to, but I cannot eat nearly as much as I could pre fill. My weight loss to this point has been due to counting calories and dealing with the hunger, knowing that the hunger won't last forever. You can do it, but you have to work with the band, calories do count. Hang in there, it will get better :)

Cody, Hang in there! I had to have 8 fills before I had a Great restriction. It's normal to have several fills before hitting the "sweet spot".

Don't give up, it will happen, OK?

You don't say whether you have restriction yet...sometimes it takes several fills before you do. I am going for my third fill on Tues. and have a little restriction but need more, I think.

The other thing is that the band is only a tool...you still have to make good choices as to what you eat. The rule of thumb is Protein first, then veggies, then good carbs if you still have room. I don't know what you're eating, but the bad stuff...chips, candy, etc. usually still goes down fine, unfortunately! And exercise (which I HATE) is necessary, too, for most people. Two months out isn't that much time, so hang in there and try to work with the band and give it some time. Chances are that the weight will start to come off.

Good luck!

Emily

It took getting my third fill and TEN cc's in my VG band before I even felt like I had a band! Now I'm on the losing path. Hang in there.

I hesitate to tell you what I thought, but in case it helps on any level, I will. When I finally got restriction, I realized it was like the first time you have an orgasm. You may have thought you had it before, but once you've really had it, there's no doubt. If you're still questioning if you've got appropriate restriction, you don't have it yet.

Good luck and consider another fill.

"I realized it was like the first time you have an orgasm."

orgasm??? What's that???

j/k...i'm really not a thread stealer!! :)

Cody, I am strugling with the same thought..a.fraid daily (especially at dinenr time) that I've stretched that pouch out. I keep trying to be patient, and believe them when they (the proverbial they) say "You'll know it when you feel it"...I'm trying to trust!! Hang in there with me...we'll help each other up! <wink>

I felt the same way. I was banded in March and have lost approx. 28 pounds. Not as much as many who post on here. I thought I was gonna be a failure. I doubled my Water intake and started losing. Give it a try.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
