1 year/80-100 lbs lost-Heat

Recommended Posts

There are so many of you who have had the surgery at least a year. Its been HOT this weekend in Los Angeles and unbearable for this fat I have and the edema is worst than ever.

Since surgery, losing lbs and feeling lighter, how has it been for you during hot days. Is it the same feeling of being hot and miserable? or sweating profusely? or is the heat more tolerable?

I sure can't wait til next summer when I can say I feel good not lugging around all those lbs.

Krys

Krys, I can honestly say it gets better! Prior to my surgery, this Florida girl would only leave the house to run to the car to run inside to wherever I was going that had ac. I could not stand being outside in the heat, it was intolerable to me. Now, I find it doesn't bother me near as much, no more edema, and I actually enjoy being out in it and being more active.

Ohhh and that Florida heat kicks our California heat in the A$$. I flew into Miami one July after leaving 103 degree heat in California, I was so excited when the pilot announced the temperature in Miami was 83 degrees when we arrived at 7 p.m. Then I took one step out of the airport and almost passed out. The air was so thick and heavy. I had never experienced humidity like that. I was thankful for my dry 103 degrees when I came back to California lol.

For me by about 35 lbs lost I had way more heat tolerance. Ever since then I am cold even in 70 degrees. When it's 85-90 degrees, I find it only slightly uncomfortable, and sometimes not bad at all.

Sounds good. I think the same, in that, I will be able to move more freely. My goal is to jog, a big jump from only walking.

Great job on your weight loss.

It's so much better. I can tell you that I freeze my butt off now. Literally, my a/c is set on 80 degrees and I live in NW Florida so it's hot and humid here, but I still freeze. For the first time in years, I've worn jeans more this summer than pre-op. I'm already pulling out long pj pants, pulled the comforter out of the space saver bag, and my poor husband is baking. But, I'm actually chronically cold.

Also, I hardly ever sweat anymore. It takes a lot for me to break out in a sweat unless it's just super hot and humid out, but it's still mainly around my head, hairline, and neck area.

Oh...I am soooo looking forward to NOT sweating so bad in the heat! I live in Phoenix...HOT. It is "only" 105 today. ugh. Thank goodness it is a "dry" heat.

I can't wait til I can wear skirts and shorts in the summer without worrying about my legs rubbing and getting really uncomfortable... Yoga capri pants were my staple this summer.. I'm hoping to throw that concept out the window for next summer in my metamorphisis of a body!

I had heard for years, when I lurked around wls boards, that people got cold easily. For me that seemed like a benefit since I'm overheated in anything but a blizzard. So now that I'm sleeved, I'm wondering, when does this kick in? I've lost some weight and it's 2 months out, so, where's my chilliness please! Oh yeah, and I'm in Iraq so, you know, HOT.

Ha you should try the UK! It's only September and I am already wearing thermal socks and layers of jumpers!! And weirdly when I do get warm finally it quickly tips into being too hot. My internal thermostat is so confused. Worst thing is the cold nose though, I am thinking of inventing a woolly nosewarmer and marketing them on eBay.

Ha! I started making nose-cozies for my friends and family years ago as a teen after reading Haroun & The Sea of Stories, where the people who live in the dark wear them. I can make you one!:)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
