Butrcupz622 1 Posted September 22, 2010 So here's the deal... I finally went to myfitnesspal.com and registered myself. I entered all my food consumption for the day and apparently I'm barely managing to eat 700 calories a day. And all the other days are not much different from today (meal wise). Accordingly to their data, my body is like in some sort of starvation mode which is why I'm not losing the weight. My metabolism has slowed down which isn't helping me at all. My question to everyone out there is this: How can I possibly consume the suggested 1,200 calories a day when I stay feeling full? :laugh0: I can never fully finish my meals because they either don't sit well with me or because I instantly feel full. Add to that the amount of liquid I'm supposed to be drinking. How does anyone do it? Am I doing something wrong here?
Eureka-C 20 Posted September 22, 2010 I have heard that many people early out consume 600-800 calories. I haven't had my sleeve yet, but maybe some others can help. I wonder if a spoonful of Peanut Butter or other high Protein, higher fat items in small amounts might help.
a.walker 2 Posted September 23, 2010 Does your surgeon or nutritionist have a guideline for you? Most very new sleevers don't eat 1200 calories/day. Some keep it as low as 400-600, while others eat up to 1000 or so daily. I think 700 calories a day is very reasonable. Myfitnesspal doesn't know you have the sleeve, so they give me that message every day, too. I ignore it, because I know I can't eat that much. I actually shoot for 600-800 calories/day with at least 60 grams Protein and 40 carbs or less. The Protein and carb goals were my surgeon's guidelines, and the calories just seemed to work out at about this many if I was eating the right foods.
laylasmojo 10 Posted September 23, 2010 Those guidelines are not for people with the sleeve, if you try to stuff your self with 1200 cal in the very begining you are going to hurt your self or make your self sick. most DR's and NUTS recomend 600 to 800 for new sleeve patients. Good luck and be carefull
Lookinupin2010 0 Posted September 23, 2010 Yes, like the above post...those are for our pre-op days. We are in a new mode now. As for me, I'm supposed to consume 70 grams of Protein a day and in only 600 calories. Being almost 6 months out now, I've learned to accomplish that, but my problem in the past was getting in enough Protein and not being hungry. Don't be consumed by the burdens of the past...live in the joyous NOW !!!
Oregondaisy 2,021 Posted September 23, 2010 You are very newly sleeved. I would not worry about it. You'll be able to eat more later, and you'll be able to get in more Protein and things will sit well. You're still very new at this.
Prila 1 Posted September 23, 2010 Myfitnesspal.com allows you to change your "goals". I have mine set at 800 calories and 60 grams of Protein. You can set yours to whatever your doctor recommends.

Add to that the amount of liquid I'm supposed to be drinking. How does anyone do it? Am I doing something wrong here? I agree!!!! It's TERRIBLE trying to eat and feeling full! I CAN'T DO IT! I know I'm not losing because I'm not eating enough, and to top it off since I started my period I'm so nauseous I can't eat the little I was eating ...I know I need to get my Protein in, and Fiber, but it's so difficult, it's really starting to get on my nerves :w00t: !!!! Globetrotter 1,340 Posted September 27, 2010 I'm 10 weeks out and on 600 calories/70g's Protein a day. I've got a craving for vegetables but 600 cals keeps me on a pretty tight budget of protein protein protein. I seem to be a slow loser. If allowed I could easily 900 cals a day
NLWC.Christa 4 Posted September 27, 2010 I use fatsecret.com, mostly because I like the app for my mobile phone and the reporting feature (I email my food logs to my dietician each week). I never get a "you're not eating enough" message. I hover between 550 and 700 calories with a minimum of 60 grams of Protein. As to my stall at week 3-4, once I upped my Water intake and my protein, I started losing again.
LowCho 1 Posted September 28, 2010 I agree with what the others have said. The postop goals I've been given are to try to get to 800 calories & to keep carbs below 40.
