Goodness! That's gotta hurt!

One funny thing was that when I finally did BM my mega chest pains disappeared... I had no idea the two were connected. Could have been a coincidence.

I developed a case of concrete bowels during week 2. I think it was mostly from Lortab, which, like an idiot, I took to help me sleep, not for pain. I will never take morphine-based meds again (knock on wood)! I even went to the ER, but apparently I thought it was worse than they did, they sent me home without any treatment other than advice. Eventually Metamucil did the trick, and now I take about a half-capful every day in my morning tea. That was so traumatic I never want to go thru anything like it again! Metamucil works wonders.

Concrete bowels is truly the WORD! I was literally crying:crying:! OMGOSH!!! OUCH, OUCH, OUCH, OUCH, OUCH...Finally passed, but then later followed by liquid bowels:confused1: which I seriously don't understand...I'm so worried about getting all the Protein in, I don't have room for other foods :)...But I think I'm gonna have to make some room, I DO NOT WANT TO GO THROUGH THIS AGAIN:svengo:!!! Thanks for all the tips sleeve sisters:blush:

I use these too. They have one for Weight Management and is less in sugar and Carbs than your regular Fiber chews too. You can take up to 4 chews daily adding 8g fiber.

Fiber is sooo important and no one knows this better than a WLS patient!!

I'm dealing with the CB's too, (concrete bowels) and I've discovered that colace and dulcolax give me painful cramps. I like a powder that gets added to Water rather than a chew, since that also encourages me to get in my water quotient. I've just started a benefiber powder, it comes in individual stick packs, 8 to a box, 3 grams of fiber each. I got the Cherry Pomegranate flavor.

Nothing like a high Protein diet to mess with your system

The initial stages are tough and in my case, I didn't consume any fiber until I was at least a month along although I had no issues. I believe for me the reason was that I drank at least 8-10 glasses of Water and that certainly gets things moving. Around the 6-week mark, I started eating Fiber One Cereal twice a day (about a 1/3c per serving with a few blueberries) .. no issues at all.

If you have a juicer or a super high powered blender, make your own juices at home, peels and all. That will help a little. So will the addition of oats, which someone else mentioned. But I can hardly eat enough oats to make much of a difference anyway! For some people strong coffee does the trick. You have to find what works for you.

I've had this issue my whole life and it's only worsened with the VSG. I now take Miralax every day in my tea and it's helped me a lot. If you think this is a more temporary issue the Benefiber packets work well, and so does the clear and tasteless Metamucil powder.

I made my bummy hurt after that phase (yes you are welcome for the imagery) I had to start throwing the flavorless benefiber into my Protein shakes. The mushy phase was not my friend either. I used to work in nursing homes and Constipation is the rule not the exception two of the big reasons are decreased hydration and that people are not as ambulatory as they used to be. Walk and drink and things will move!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
