Just got back from Disneyland - Questions???

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I just got back from Disneyland where I walked what felt like 40 miles a day. And I have lost nothing??? I assume that I didn't lose any weight because I did tend to eat higher fat foods(not much else available at Disneyland) but not in large quantities. Is this all part of the course? Why would I be able to eat a small bowl of frozen yogurt without a problem one day and then a couple days later take a couple bites and not be able to eat any more?? At three and a half weeks, is this still an adjustment phase or is this normal? The other thing that was strange while I was on vacation was that now that I am eating more soft solids, I find I am having a hard time figuring what it is I can eat easily. It seems to change daily. I've read that mornings are often when most are a little tighter but what I find is that the first couple of bites need to be slow or I get that tight feeling and I either can't eat anymore or have to drink something and let those first couple of bites pass before I can eat anymore, no matter what time it is. One afternoon I was starving and decided I would just eat a couple bites of my daughters hot dog instead of buying something I wouldn't be able to eat all of and found out what PB-ing is all about. Wow, how uncomfortably strange. I wasn't sick to my stomach, my stomach just said Nope aint gonna keep that in here and up it came. I ate it on an empty stomach and just assumed there would be room for it and it would be OK - WRONG. I have to admit there were times I wished I could just eat what I wanted when I wanted but the band reminded me constantly of why it was there. Don't get me wrong, I am still loving my band. It helped me to say NO when I really wanted to say yes several times in Disneyland. The hotdog incident was quite an eye opener. ;) I really don't want to go there again. It was a little disappointing not to have lost anymore weight but I lost so much the first week I guess it's too much to ask for to lose a whole lot more this first month. Sorry to ramble on....I must have missed you guys and your words of wisdom!!

Kathy, I hope you had fun at Disney!

Before your first fill, I don't think it's possible to really say anything meaningful about your restriction. Soon you probably won't have any; what you have now is still a result of post-op swelling and the healing process. In a few more weeks you will likely feel perfectly normal and not be able to tell that you have a band (unless it decides to surprise you sometimes, like with the hot dog incident).

Before i had restriction hot dogs and hamburgers were tricky,i had to eat it really slow and chew the heck out of it.Now it's almost imposible to eat those two foods.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
