HELP! Opti-Fast makes me sick......

Recommended Posts

I just started my liquid diet yesterday, I had three sips yesterday and about 1/4 of one Meal Replacement today. I am suppose to be drinking 5 of these Meal Replacements a day and I can't even get one down, the after tase is making we nausiated. I have been eating sugar-free Jello and sugar-free popcicles but I know I am not getting the nutrients that I need from them. Is there anything I can do to get this Opti-Fast into my system so that I can have all the nutrients that I need to have my surgery on October 5th? My Dr. will only let me use meal replacements (opti-fast), jello, popcicles and crystal light. I am not missing food but I know that I need the Protein and Vitamins so I do not become malnutritioned. I have thought about just drinking broth and taking a Multi-Vitamin but do not know if that would help my liver shrink or make things worse. I would appreciate any feed back.

I did Medifast a few years ago. I had to doctor up almost everything with either Torani SF syrups, Capella flavor drops or bouillon cubes.

There were also recipes online to do things like make a muffin, pancakes or pudding out of the mixes. I'm not sure how well that would adhere to your nutritional plan right now, but it's worth a shot.

Sorry, I hope it gets better.

does have to be opti fast? try something else like clk suggested. I love Bariatric Advantage Protein Shakes, vanilla you can throw your own creations into, I take extracts in different flavors and add them to the vanilla shake, or a chocolate shake with cherry, strawberry, or banana extract. . . yummmmyyyyy. . . you can add Peanut Butter (1 tsp only) into the chocolate shake and have a "peanut butter cup" flavored one. . . anything to make these things taste better. . . i don't know how good adding "stuff" into the Optifast would be. . . try one and see. . . good luck

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
