Sharp Pains in stomach area

Recommended Posts

I'm 2 almost 3 weks postop, and tonight after dinner I experienced sharp pains in my stomach area. I was wondering if anyone has experienced this. It is the first time I hae experienced it since the surgery. I'm kind of worried. I guess it could be gas pains, but I just don't know the pain is not contant, it comes and goes. If it continues I will call my Doctor tomorrow, but if it keeps up tonight, I know my mind is going to start racing, and then I will start thinking something is wrong with my sleeve. So if you have experienced it or may know what the pain is please set my mind at ease. The pain has not occurred now for almost 20 minutes. Maybe it is just the stomach cramps like everyone else has been talking about. Just scared me half to death a new pain in the stomach area.

When you say stomach area, do you mean your belly or your actual stomach? If it is the belly region it could be Constipation, that is what my pains turned out to be, if it is the stomach itself you could have just gone one bite too many or whatever you ate may have been too harsh for your recovering tummy. At three weeks out I would think you would still be on full liquids, maybe moving into mushies. Are you measuring out your ounces? That helps while we are adjusting to what the size of our meals look like now.

It was my actual stomach. I am on mushies, and ate scrambled eggs which I ate before, and did not even eat my allowed amount. The pain only happened a couple of times, and went away. Hopefully it was nothing. We will see if it happens again

Oh, eggs? Soft eggs are recommended to us as this great source of Protein and yet many sleevers have problems with eggs, me included. At about 2-3 weeks out I tried a soft scrambled egg, I could barely eat half of one egg, nibbled over a period of an hour. Even taking it slowly, it felt like it just sat in my chest for a really long time. I had some sharp pains at 3 weeks out that turned out to be gas. I don't know how much danger a person is in at three weeks for a leak.

I'm 12 days out and had a simular thing happen to me. I am on pureed foods, ground chicken went down real good, then the next night I tried 1/4 cup of ground rib. 2 bites into it OMG it felt like someone took a belt and was tightening it as hard as they could then release, this went on for about 35 min!! Painful it was, but quit and felt better, I'm sure the food was too harsh and not ready for it.

I don't know if they has anything to do with it but every morning I wake up to that. When my tummy is empty it lets me know it wants some damn food. It stops being such a pain as soon as a drink a glass of Water and take my PPI. It is still hungry but less sharp about the pains.

Here are the things that you should consider emergencies in the first month or so:

1) Constant pain -- IE, not pain that comes and goes -- especially pain that radiates around to the back or jaw

2) Persistent vomiting (not just once when something is stuck)

3) Difficulty breathing (this is a 911 issue)

4) Persistent high fever (over 101)

5) Blood coming out of any orifice (and if it's in the stool, it will probably look black like tar)

Of course, I'm not a doctor (I have to say that). But still, even not being a doctor, I'd say that if you have any of those issues, RUN don't walk to your gastric surgeon (if possible), or local ER (if not).

If you're not having those issues (and remember, that's PERSISTENT pain, not occasional), I wouldn't stress out about it too much.

I think that at only 3 weeks out the occasional twinge is going to be quite normal. I had pains every now and then, especially after eating, and at other times. Your stomach is still healing and everything else in your body is recovering after the trauma of surgery as well.

I agree that you shouldn't worry too much unless you are in persistent pain and/or running a fever etc. Just take it easy :(

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
