Top 10 reasons to have VSG surgery

Recommended Posts

Things accomplished over the last 15.5 months post-vsg for me. . . They were all on my list.

Fit into an airplane seat, and see seat material on both sides of my thighs

Fit into a restaurant booth

Wear 4 inch heels without wincing in pain after 20 minutes

To wear true SKINNY jeans and look good doing it

To hump with my husband and not have my fat get in the way

To get checked out because I'm hot, not because I have to turn sideways to fit somewhere

To be seen, and I mean really seen, not just as the funny fat chick

To have my son say "I'm so proud to have you as my mommy"

To join the PTA executive board and not worry about what all the other "hot" moms think of me

To be called a MILF - that was a great moment LOL

Things yet to be accomplished, but are works in progress:

Get pregnant, have a healthy pregnancy and deliver a healthy, happy baby

Accept that being fat all these years has destroyed my skin's elasticity, and without surgical intervention, I'm left with the excess skin and itty bitty boobs.

Have plastic surgery

Look at myself in the mirror, and know that I've made it completely. (I know this won't happen until plastics)

Ride horses again

Run into an ex and ask " was I drunk our entire relationship?" (okay that one isn't very nice)

1. Have my husband tell me he loves me "no matter what" I look like and know that there is no "no matter what".

2. Ride a roller coaster again.

3. Take the kids to the amusement park and enjoy the park. (Walking & Riding)

4. Never again see people checking out my shopping cart knowingly.

5. Buy clothes at ANY clothing store.

6. Not worry that I am embarrassing my son (now grand daughter) when I meet his/her friends.

7. Have my husband pick me up and swing me around or lift me off the hot tub like he used to ... without worrying it will break his back.

8. Paint my own toes.

9. Fit in an airplane seat or a restaurant booth.

10. No longer be described as "the big girl" or "the fat one".

BUT... most importantly... to feel better every day. I am only half way to goal and I can go up and down stairs. I can play on the floor with my grand daughter. I can cross my legs. The best is yet to come!!!

I love these threads too! Here are some of mine.

Taking a bath in a regular sized bathtub and being all the way underwater.

Wearing heels with everything!

Being able to buy cute/fashionable clothes for cheap.

Borrowing clothes from friends.

Having my lap back so I can hold both my kids on it.

Sit in the carseat without leaning to one side.

The relief on my back once I lose some weight

Wearing sundresses again.

Eating tiny portions instead of scarfing food down

Seeing people I haven't seen in years while thin.

In no particular order:

1 - Ride horses again.

2 - Actually fit into regular seats (airplane, concert, movie, rollar coaster)

3 - Fit into clothes that can not be categorized as Plus or Womens sizes.

4 - Use stairs without pain.

5 - Be able to chase my girls, catch them, and still be able to breathe and talk.

6 - Kinky, world shaking sexual positions.

7 - Be back, hip and foot pain free.

8 - Have my mental image of my self actually match what I see in the mirror (instead of always being shocked at how large I am.)

9 - Lay in the hammock with my husband.

10 - Not feel hungry every waking minute.

This is sure worthy of thought...I'm thinking...what a great post.

I just saw a picture of myself from a few years ago. I turned red, I cannot believe I looked like that person...;'her' face was so wide, the whole body was so wide and just swollen. That is so sad to not even know how bad you look/looked/how unhealthy.... So what I'm thinking is...

TO STOP EATING HUGE AMOUNTS OF UNHEALTHY FOOD!!

TO GET YOUR LIFE BACK!!!

TO HAVE FUN AGAIN!!

TO STOP MAKING FUNNY NOISES IN YOUR SLEEP!!

TO HAVE YOUR CHILD SAY HIS MOM IS HOT!!

TO HAVE YOUR HUSBAND LONG TO TOUCH YOU (CONSTANTLY, okay that is annoying too, haha)

TO WEAR AWESOME CLOTHES THAT YOU ACTUALLY LIKE AND LOOK GOOD IN!!

TO HAVE A CHANCE AT LIVING A LONG, FUN, HEALTHY LIFE!!

TO LAUGH MORE, LIVE HAPPIER, WORK HARDER, PLAY OFTEN!!

TO FIND YOUR LOST HIP BONES!!

My number one reason: IS TO BE HEATHY AGAIN. I had HBP before I have surgery, since then my BP has been perfect. I also see my mom and that's me 30 years from now. She has diabetes, heart problems and some other issues and I know her being overweight contributed to her problems and I am choosing not to go that route.

Now that fact I might look good is just icing on the cake.

GOOD LUCK TO EACH OF US IN REACHING OUR GOALS!!!!

KUDO TO THOSE WHO HAVE ALREADY REACH THEIR GOALS.

I've thought of some more!!

1 For people to see my face before they see my body.

2 To not feel that it is a struggle to present myself with dignity.

3 To not have to work so hard to look good; to be able to throw on a sweater and jeans and look cute, not sloppy.

4 To wear pretty underwear in a variety of styles

5 Short skirts, skinny jeans, tank tops, flat-front trousers, shorts.

6 To walk long distances or stand longer than 10 minutes or dance without getting winded.

7 To walk out of a store empty handed because I didn't like their styles, not because nothing fit.

8 To never wear double knit polyester AGAIN!!!!!! F** you, Lane Bryant!!

9 To not be forced to pay through the nose for cheaply made POLYESTER clothes.

10 To wear real fabrics; silk, wool, cashmere.

11 To fit comfortably with room to spare in movie theatre seats, especially when I go to an old theatre that has seats that were made back when everyone had narrow behinds.

These are all so true - here are a few of mine:

Not sweating profusely and looking like I peed my pants every day of summer

Being able to run again

Not coming home and only wanting to sleep because I'm always so tired

Being able to get past people in movie theaters, at arenas with bleachers/small rows of seats and in classrooms with tiny desks without my butt or any other part of my body touching theirs

Not being afraid to dance

Enjoy "being on top"

Flirty, sexy shoes - definitely high heels!!

Sex is better than it's EVER been!

Shopping for clothes is fun, fun, fun for the first time in my life I think!!

Obviously my priorities are in order. Sex and vanity rule!

food is now an afterthought except I eat

because it tastes good and I know I must. I LOVE that!

There is NOT ONE DOWNSIDE to this surgery...I'm 51 and just wish I'd have known

about it sooner!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
