Almost 3 Months out - Switched to Atkins

Recommended Posts

Hi all

Just thought I would check in.

About 2 weeks ago I decided the 800 cal 30 grams of carbs a day wasnt going to work for me. I felt like crap and couldent even get around the block walking or riding my bike without a rest.

So, I switched over to Atkins. I am down approximately 10 lbs, feeling a lot better and have a lot more energy than before.

The nice thing is that I can eat as much Protein as I want, as long as I watch my carbs. I am finding it works better for me.

Besides its pretty much what a lot of the docs recommend.

I get in veggies during the day, the doc cleared me for salads over a month ago, so I do salads with low carb veggies, which for me is like broccoli and cucumbers and lettuce, with a generous sprinkle of cheese,

and a couple tablespoons of ranch or blue cheese or any other type of low carbd dressing. Plus, sometimes part of a chicken breast on top.

In the mornings its usually eggs in some fashion, or the other morning I fried a pork chop. I ate some fore Breakfast and some for lunch and I was plenty happy with it.

Anyway, an alternative to that 800 calories.

Lisa

So how many calories and carbs are you eating now or are you not counting?

I guess I don't get what you're doing differently...most of are eating a high Protein, low carb diet. Isn't that what you just described?

Hiya Lisa,

Glad you have found something that works for you... just wondering, like Goodlife, how it is different to what most of us losers are doing... please would you explain the differences cos I am liking the sound of losing 10lb and more energy...lol =]

I think what most of us do is basically Atkins and just don't call it that. I ate under 30 grams of carbs per day while I was losing but never counted calories.

Yeah, like Oregon Daisy Said. Atkins Induction phase the first one you go on says 20 carbs or less. It switches your metabolism over from burning carbs for fuel to burning fat for fuel. And apparently you can eat over twice as many calories.

So what I am doing differently is keeping my carbs below 20 and not worrying about my calories. It has made a huge difference in the way I feel.

As you move thru the Atkins phases you add more carbs.

I think we just eat Atkins style automatically. My surgeon said 600 cals, 70 g's Protein a day. In order for me to get in 70 g's of protein in the tiny space of my stomach, I can't really eat much else so I'm automatically on a low carb diet. I looked at my tracker just now and it seems that my carbs on average are about 20g's a day and my protein 80g's. For me I've noticed that if I don't keep my fats up my weightloss slows down so I try to keep my fats at 20g's or slightly more every day.

I felt terrible on 800 cals a day, could hardly climb the stairs in my house and couldent even make it around the block on my walks without resting.

Now, I am keeping my carbs below 20 for Atkins "induction" stage, the may increase as I get closer to goal.

The increase in calories is what did it for me I feel a heck of a lot better.

I feel great even though I am eating too many carbs, I'm losing very slowly though, I'm dreading my weigh in today. I might give Atkins a try, a change is always good, a shock to the system and more weight loss apparently!

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
