Aetna Weight History Question

Recommended Posts

Hi, this is my very first post. I have been lurking on here for a little over a month now. I know there have been many threads created about Aetna weight history, but I can't find any answers to my question.

Aetna requires you to have a documented BMI over 40 for the LAST two years. I have medical records of a BMI over 40 for 2010 and 2009. Does anyone know if Aetna considers the LAST two years to be 2010 and 2009?? Or do you think I need medical records for 2008 (becuase I don't have those).

Any feedback will help. I have Aetna Aexcel Plus Choice POS2

And if this is any help, once I jump through all my hoops I SHOULD be able to get my surgery in January or February 2011.

Your last two years would be the day of your application - 2 years?

So 01/2009 - 01/2011 ?

I really have absolutely no idea how this works! Some people are saying I should have 2008 also, but I don't have any records at ALL for 2008. But I mean, once I jump through ALL my hoops and do my 3 month supervised nutrition/exercise program and all the other doctors visits, I'm pretty sure all my information will be sent to my insurance company for approval in January 2011.

I don't know if it's the same for Aetna, but for UHC, they wanted records starting with LAST year (meaning this year --2010 --does NOT count). So, I had to give them records from 2009, 2008, etc.

I also have Aetna but are you sure our bmi had to be at 40 these past 2 yrs to get approved. I'm at 41bmi now but was below 40 in 2009. I'm looking to have my surgery in January 2011.

I sent in ONE appt for 2008, gym record for 2009, and the 6 mo diet for 2010. I was approved with no problem other than they want it to be outpatient.

I have Aena insurance, and i started the process in March 2010, with a surgery date of Sept 2010. My two years went back to 2008. Ironically, I was pregnant and a new mom during the 2 years, so it was easy for me to get a complete weight history (and some pretty cruel obesity-related doctor's notes too *sigh*)

I think they consider the 2 year history from the date the pre-approval process was implemented...

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
