How might this affect my surgery?

Recommended Posts

I went to the dr today for my 2nd out of 6th medically supervised dr visit. I had an mri on Wednesday and it showed several problems (meniscus tears, cysts). Is it possible that my insurance (Cigna) would make me fix my knee before they would approve surgery? I'm hoping to have my weight loss surgery in Feb and knee surgery in June. I'm a teacher and I would need more time off for my knees than for wls.

I don't see why they would make you fix your knee first.. The way I see it is if you loose weight it will make it easier to heal your knee, and less likely to hurt it again.

Thanks for your input. That certainly sounds reasonable to me, but I didn't know if it was only my wishful thinking!

Thanks again!

I agree, but obviously am not an insurance rep! Most of the preop things that are of concern are the things that would affect you specifically in the surgery itself, i.e, issues with respiration or your heart. Hopefully things go very well for you. Keep on posting!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
