Hard to Swallow Horse Pills

Recommended Posts

I've never had problems swallowing pills before.. so don't know why but when I have to take the Vitamin, Calcium, etc they get stuck in my throat. I drink before I take them to wet my throat but it doesn't help.

Anybody got any pill tricks?

I haven't got any suggestions to help get them down, but perhaps chewable vitamins and Calcium would be a better option for you right now? xx

I buy the powdered vits at costco...called EcoDrink. They come in 2 flavors to the box, orange and berry and they are pretty tasty. Of course, the colder the better. You mix them in your Water bottle and sip away. You get your Water and your vits at the same time. They even throw in a water bottle to mix them in, but I just add them to my SmartWater, which gives me the extra electrolytes and keeps the leg cramps at bay. No choking.

I also get chewable Calcium. The choc flavored ones are like dessert. LOL.

I tend to just throw the pill in my mouth, and get a gulp, tilt my head back to submerge the pill and swallow. Don't know how to explain, but I try my best to not let my tongue get in the way when I motion to swallow. :)

I do the same thing as Pete..

I stick it in the back of my mouth take a big drink of Water and let the Vitamin kind of float there. Then swallow. I almost do better with bigger pills them smaller ones(like citrical petites) gravity seems to help. I do better standing then sitting. I also have extra Water nearby in case one does get stuck at the top of my stomach.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
