Out of pocket expense

Recommended Posts

I have insurance through Aetna. I am almost through with my 3 month multi-discipline. I called the hospital that I am having my surgery with. They said it could be up to $3000 upfront. That is my max out of pocket. I have almost met my deductible for this year, but there is no way that I can pay $3000 upfront. They said once my surgery is scheduled that I would know how much it will be. I know that all policies are different, but has anyone else gone through Aetna? How much did you have to pay?

I had to pay the rest of my out of pocket but the hospital let me set up a payment plan. They were very nice about it. I also had to pay $360 to my doctor which was my 20%, I think.

One thing to remember is you only pay your portion of the final bill. Hospital may be expensive but if they are on your plan there will be a ton of charges dismissed before your actual portion of bill shows.

For example - my billed amount was 15K but then network discount was 12K so I only paid my percentage of the remaining 3K.

Yeah that was what I was originally thinking too. It is getting closer and I do not want any surprises that may delay my surgery.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
