Going back to the gym

Recommended Posts

I'm 6 1/2 weeks out and started going back to the gym last friday. I used to work out 3-4 times a week for an hour (mainly cardio just to try and keep myself healthy despite being fat!) I find it very tiring now even though I'm about 23 pounds lighter, I can bearly do 40 min of cardio, does this happen to anyone else? I'm trying to go most days now, I think maybe doing 30-40 min 5 days a week will help with my weight loss, I hope! I am getting my Proteins in (around 70grs) and my calories are around 900 now, which sounds like more than most of you get at this stage. Any thoughts/opinions would be appreciated:001_wub:

I went back at 6 weeks and it took me a couple of weeks (at least) to get back into it. now at 12 weeks it feels like I`m flying in comparison! I can get a little dizzy for a couple of seconds if I get up quickly. I have all the energy I need.

You have had a life change here girl! Start off slow, don't expect to be able to handle the gym right off. . . i started off with 10 minutes on the treadmill and 5 to 6 minutes on the ellipitical, slowly increasing the time by 1 minute each week. . . now i'm up to 30 minutes on the treadmill and 20 minutes on the ellipitical. . .i've added some weights in there too. . . but i haven't gone in a while, life is too demanding and there are priorities beyone the gym. . .:) good luck!

Hiya Chilo,

I've been going to the gym in work for a week or two... I too can't do that much but I try to break it down and like thinoneday, I try to add a little extra each time. I do 20 -25 mins on the bike, 10 mins on the stepper, 10 mins on the running machine (fast walk) and 7 mins on the rower... this is where I am now. I too add some free weights. I have also started Zumba which is a load of fun and I certainly build up a sweat... good luck and keep it up! x

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
