2wks Post-Op, Losing too quickly?

Recommended Posts

So, at 2wks post-op, what's the average rate of loss? I've lost 13lb post-op, which is about 1lb/day. Is that normal, too fast, not fast enough? I know we're all different - just want to make sure it's all good.

And generally speaking, when does that rate change? My expectations were 1-2lb/wk. Does the loss slow down after I get on to more solid foods?

Thanks!

I think you're doing great..men tend to lose a little quicker than women. I lost 20 lbs my first month post op and yes it slowed down for me after that.

Some people continue to lose at that rate, but ehh....I'm not one of them! lol

Actually, I think that is great! I lost very quickly (as a woman) and if memory serves me, I had lost close to 20 lbs in about 2-3 wks. I am 3 months out now and have lost 62 lbs so I think it varies from person to person. I have always lost weight quickly on diets so thankful that continued BUT also thankful that this time, I have such a greater chance of KEEPING IT OFF! lol Good luch and congratulations!

That's great weight loss for two weeks. Keep in mind, after two weeks, most people go through a stall that lasts a week or two. I'm in the midst of mine. Do not get discouraged. It is your body's way of adjusting.

Good luck with everything!

You will slow down in the next month or so.

I had Lap Band before this and started at around 300lbs. The larger you are and the more weight you have to lose the quicker you will lose. If you have say 50lbs to lose it's much harder, meaning more effort is going to be needed via exercise on your part, but not impossible than someone who wants to lose 100-150lbs. I know when I was 300lbs, it was like walking around with an extra 100lbs on at all times thus a semi-workout if you want to call it that.

I just went to the doctor yesterday. I'm 6 weeks post op and lost 20 lbs since surgery day and 12 in the last 4 weeks. He said that was a lot but it's good. He said that's about the highest weight loss possible but probably will slow to 6 to 8 lbs a month.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
