Which was worse getting the sleeve or having a c-section?

Recommended Posts

My C-section was much more painful than the sleeve. I'm 4 weeks post op today and you can barely see the scars.

Both a c-section and VSG are fresh on my mind.

I had our last daughter (2nd vertical c-section) in Feb. 2009 and VSG 3 weeks ago without any surgeries in between the two to confuse me..lol. The c-section because it is bigger and lower is much worse. The muscles you use to get in and out of bed are compromised and upset with the c-section. The VSG incisions are tiny and much higher up think between your belly button and boobs higher up. While getting in and out of bed hurts with either surgery for a few days, I'd much rather have another VSG than a C-section even though with the c-section you get a mighty cute and sweet "consolation prize". :crying:

Well thank you everyone for your replies! :crying: I had my c-section in January 08, and by the third day I was fine. Of course I was a little sore, but I don't rememeber it being so bad. On the 4th day, I remember running to the store bc I needed hand mittens for our son, and I started crying in the middle of the store bc "it was the first time my baby wasn't with me in the baby section."(he stayed hm with daddy.) Haha! :) Hormones for sure! Ok now I'm just babbling! lol

Thanks again for all your insight. :) I'm a lot more at ease! :)

There is no comparison. I didn't even have pain medications with the sleeve after the first 24 hours. I had it right after surgery for pain in the left shoulder from gas.

With the C sections, I was in bed and cried from the incision pain.

I am not a Mama yet in life, however as a side note, this experience varies a ton for each of us, and I know sometimes when I see others didn't struggle with something I did it makes me more quiet about it, that being said... I had NO pain post op, my incisions were annoying, but not painful (unless I accidentally layed on one.) I am the first of three of my friends to have the procedure. One friend had (the plication) a month ago and still when doing things around the house has to take lortab. My other friend had surgery this last Friday and she had very little nausea (I had nutty amounts) and she is still in a good deal of pain and is exhausted.

These are both tough ladies (one insisted on having her baby vaginally with no epidural or drugs...) My point of all this rambling it that I hope your experience is SMOOTH sailing, but if it isn't don't be hard on yourself. Either way, I promise any of the negative things you experience while healing are worth it!

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
