Got my band..Where's the best place to go for information

Recommended Posts

Got my band Tues. 6-6-06, I've got more questions than I thought I'd have... like "where's my stomach?" and "am I hungrey or have I injested too much?" "whats this moving inside me that feels like a baby's foot?" I just know that can't be right! "Why the back ach?" "The pain med isn't very strong, can I take Excedrine or ibuprofin?" "Or, how about a little morphine?" Anybody know whats going on?????

I think you're IN the right place! (but of course, the best bet would be to ask your Dr.)

Go to the general 'area' and start posting away with the questions! You'll get more help there than in the intros :)

Welcome!

liquid Tylenol is the over the counter med that I was told I could take. It would knock me out. The back ach could be gas. A lot of people get it in their shoulder and it takes a few weeks to go away. Be sure you are walking and GasX chewables really helped me with the gas.:preggers: I believe others have used pepto bismol. I don't suggest morphine unless your doctor administers it. Crack is not a good option either.

Your body has a new toy and is now playing with it. Give a little time and call your surgeon, they are use to all the questions you can throw at them. :gluck:

Congratulations and Welcome to Bandland:grouphug:

Hi Rett,

You are experiencing the normal post operative course. The stomach grumbling and increased movement is due to the liquid diet as well as the CO2 that they pump into your abdominal cavity during the surgery and the back pain is the gas that results from the CO2 that remains post surgery.

Get up and walk. Try bending down while supporting your abdomen and drink plenty of Water. All of this will move the gas out. Pain medications (especially Morphine and other narcotics) slow the digestive process and can increase gas pains. Excedrine contains caffeine so it might be best to stick with extra strength Tylenol.

I hope you're feeling better soon.

Excedrin also contains asprin, and asprin and ibuprofen are NSAIDS, and NSAIDS are a no-no with the band.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
