How long did you stay in the hospital?

Recommended Posts

Trying to plan ahead. When you had your sleeve surgery, how long did you stay in the hospital? How soon after release did you go back to see your surgeon? (Or did you go see your regular doctor?) My surgeon is a couple hours drive from my home, and I'm trying to figure out what to expect.

Thanks,

Dave

Hey Dave - can't answer your questions...but wanted to say HI to someone in the NW! I LOVE the NW. We spend 1-2 months on Whidbey Island every summer. =)

hello, had my surgery in US-also 3-4 hrs away-and they told me beforehand to expect to stay 2-5 days. I had surgery on Thursday 830am and was released on Friday 3pm. Believe me, I had some talking to do, surgeon said one more day which would be sat. but she would release me if I could keep down the broth & Jello they gave me. I did it! Nurse was nice enough give me Xtra drugs for the drive, I did ok on the road. today is post op day 4.

I was the hopsital one night. I went back to see my surgeon 9 days later to remove my staples. I will see him again in 2, 6, and 12 months to check my labs. After that it will be just once a year to check lab values.

I was told to expect 2-3 days. I had my surgery on Monday mid afternoon and was discharged around 9-10 pm on wednesday.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
