ChrisV67 13 Posted September 11, 2010 About a week post-op I started getting a pain in front of my left calf. At first I was worried it was a blood clot, but my doctor said you don't get blood clots in front of your leg. He said it was likley shin splints due to the weight loss in my legs. Has anyone else had this and what did you do for it?
Stacy160 201 Posted September 11, 2010 Oh lord... I'm sorry, but I think your doctor told you that just to give you an answer, so as not to look like he didn't know... but he doesn't know what he's talking about. Losing weight will not "give" you shin splints (I'm a physical therapist) in any way, shape or form. They're caused by overuse of one (or both) of a couple of muscles that run up the front of the leg that help control your foot when you walk or run, to keep it from slapping down on the ground when you step. Unless you're suddenly doing a ton of walking or running, that's not it. Doesn't sound like a blood clot either, as they do usually form in the back of the calf, but monitor it to be sure. If it gets tighter or more painful, or hard, red and swollen, get it checked out ASAP.
ChrisV67 13 Posted September 11, 2010 Thanks for the info. There is no swelling at all in fact my legs are very thin....and whatever it might be, I think it's getting better. The pain has been steadily decreasing and today it is almost gone. But I will keep an eye out for swelling and such. Thanks!!! :001_tongue:
