Anyone prescribed 2 PPI's a day?

Recommended Posts

I am of course going to speak to my doctor but I don't think the single Prilosec I take each day is doing the job. It appears by the middle to end of the day I can feel an achey burn in the center of my chest and my tummy starts rumbling...even very soon after I eat. I was wondering if anyone was prescribed to take it two times a day?

I haven't, but I know there are a few people on here that had to go to twice daily dosing, or switching over to Prevacid.

Some people take their PPI at night on an empty stomach. I still prefer to take mine first thing in the morning and wait 1 hour before eating.

I did two for a while, I am totally off of PPI's now but experienced lots of reflux and false hunger for a while. I have tried the different brands and haven't had more or less success with any. As long as they contain omazerapol (sp???) I do just fine. When I was taking 2 I took one in the AM and one before bed, it really did make a huge difference for me. Good luck, hopefully you and your doc can come to a solution that leaves you feeling much better.

I'm now taking my PPI twice a day along with Reglan and Carafate 4 times a day, due to an ulcer in my esophagus. If you are still having reflux, don't ignore it, call your dr. Best of luck.

Before I started on my wt loss journey I had to take nexium in the morning and zantac at bedtime or sometimes even after dinner because it was painful before I got to bedtime.

Now I am on 20mg Nexium in the mornings. Sometimes I forget to take it and I don't really notice a difference. But I never had a lap band either. I hear it's a different experience if you've ever had a lap band. I'll be glad to leave the nexium. Those darned things sure are expensive and I am uninsured. So, I get them from a connection in Mexico. Next week I am getting a new supply, 40mg mups I can cut in half. 14 of those = $33. Which will buy me 4 weeks of 20mg every morning. I figure by December, I won't need them anymore. Crossing my fingers...

I've been up and down, on and off ppi's and neutralizers... Acid has been my one and only big battle and it continues although it seems to be lessening. I started with a Nexium per day as per Aceves rx, it ran out after 90 days, tried to go off - big mistake - went back on with otc omeperazole, generic I think - sometimes having to take it twice a day. Found a primary care doc here who wanted me off and prescribed 40 mg (a lot, most are 20) daily of famotidine which is a neutralizer that I take in the a.m. Mostly it works pretty well, combined with Gaviscon most days but sometimes I'll pop a Zantac in the late afternoon. It is getting better tho, like today, not even a whisper of burn but some days... man... I feel like I could eat the paint off the walls.

Good luck!

I was prescribed Prilosec twice a day a the beginning. At three months my doctor said I should wean myself off of them. I did that, and now I only need to take it once or twice a week. This drug is really not recommended for long term daily use.

I'm 16 days out and still feel hungry most of the time. I just tried a zantac today, haven't really noticed a difference. I'm getting really frustrated. I did this surgery to eliminate hunger.......ugh.....

I got the ok from my PCP to take two of the Prilosec OTC daily. One in morning and one in evening. I started yesterday and I think it takes a couple days to show a change so I will check back in after I give it a go. I think prescription strength Prilosec (omeprazole) comes in 20, 30 and 40 MG and the OTC is just 20 MG so I will essentially be taking the higher 40mg dose.

Pirate- what is Gaviscon?

Sleeve- give it a couple days, I think they take some time to get the medicine to start working properly. I had little hunger right after surgery but mine has returned. I was trying to find a thread with some information from a doctor that said it may take a few months after the stomach heals for the stomach to get a true sensation of hunger. I couldnt locate the thread. Also depending on your stage of post-op it may be because your eating mushies etc. I get hungry a lot now but I eat so little that it isn't hard to shut my tummy up, but it is a pain in the butt.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
