Why did you need lidocaine? The injection for the most part is pretty painless - I watch them do it; but then again I've given blood a lot of over the years and I watch that too.

ok well she injected me once in the wrong spot with lidocaine.. then again in another spot.. the lidocaine never deadened the area around the port. It was very very painful. Maybe it was her technique. I dont know. It was the worst experience i have ever been through. I was an emotional wreck. She ended up sticking me about 6 times. She didnt use her fluoro machine. It was a piece of crap that kept turning off when she needed to see my port. Im gonna go to a dr in dallas now.

Whoa baby, you need to go see a professional or at least someone who knows how to find the port. The procedure should be a mild little prick and then a little pressure. It should not require any kind of numbing. Depending on where you get a fill - you might get Barium and a Fluoroscope and testing to see if the barium flows; maybe some adjustments and they take the needle out. Then a band-aid and it a little sit in the waiting area drinking a bottle of Water (got to double check that Water goes down); then two days of soft food.

If your fill place is not following something like this you might consier switching.

Whew! Good move, on your part, to see another doctor in Dallas.

My doc uses lidocaine also. One minor stick, is all it takes. I am not sure, if it helps, as other say the fill alone is virtually painless. However, at least psychologically, I think it's going to be painless anyway, since I have the lidocaine.

My first fill was done with no lidocaine. My second fill caused me to almost pass out. Actually, it was the attempt at a second fill, because they never were able to get the needle into the fill port after about 4 sticks.

My fill port has turned and my body has attacked the fill-line and formed a coating over it. All my fills are now done with lidocaine and with a fluoroscope, because it is too difficult for the doctor to find (and to be sure he is going into) the fill-port.

I have had three different doctors use the fluoroscope method of filling (or removing) Fluid from my band. It is then used for the "drink test".

I get dizzy for an entire day when I get a fill. I asked my nurse about it and she says sometimes your body goes into shock when a needle is used. I never thought about the lidocane, though. I wonder if that's what it is. I've never EVER been scared of needles and never had a problem before with dizziness until I started getting fills.

I doubt if it is the lidociane, because the only time that I got dizzy and almost passed out, they did not use lidocaine. On the three onccasions that they have used lidocaine, I did not get dizzy.

Granted not all people are created medically equal.

Puddinpie are you allergic to the numbing medicine that the dentist uses? If so you need to mention that to your fill doctor.

Novocaine (used by dentists) is lidocaine. Although there are other numbing meds this one was commonly used by dentists.

Awwww! I'm so sorry to hear that y'all are having bad experiences with fills. I feel fortunate that mine went so smoothly without the need for numbing. Didnt feel a thing and I was so scared the nurse had to hold my hand! hehe

When I went for my first fill, the regular fill doctor wasnt there, so I got some one who poked me several times and kept moving the needle inside... it was such a sickening feeling that I felt like I was gonna pass out and had to lay down fast!!!

It might not have been the numbing stuff but if the doc moved that port like mine did, thats enuf to make ya wanna drop.

I make sure NOW that the regular guy is in...no more am I going thru that crap.

I was so glad to know that I am not alone! I had my first fill yesterday and YES I did pass out!! It happened after I was numbed and as he was inserting into my tube. I told my doctor that he was loosing me and I was going under. THe next thing I knew I was on the floor and felt like I had been asleep forever. IT was only seconds but it felt longer! I have a very weak stomach and I used to pass out all the time. After having 3 pregnancies and many blood tests I kind of got used to needles so I haven't fainted in about 3 years until yesterday! I was so embarrased, my doctor is awesome and it wasn't caused by him poking around. It was caused by my weak stomach and we think because he filled me standing up. Next time I will be laying down during my fill to hopefully avoid this. I too was dizy the whole rest of the day. I couldn't imagined having a fill without the numbing solution so I guess I know to not schedule anything on the days of my fills!! Hopefully this will get easier!!

That's right. Out cold. The room was stuffy, but I have never fainted before and never had an issue with needles. According to my friend, this is what happened:

I was on the platform of the xray table standing up, and they put the anestesia in, and then the doctor put the fill needle in, my face turned pale white and I just slumped over and down. Luckily his nurse saw it coming and rushed over me to help me down. During this time my back got covered in sweat, and I was out for about 2 minutes, with the fill needle in me (the doctor took it out when I was passed out). I came to, and said "I think I'm going to pass out". I didn't realize that I already had been out! I got a .8 cc fill after that, but the doctor was gravely concerned, and did not want me having an episode like that. My friend thinks its because it was hot and I had not had much Protein that day. Has anyone had anything happen like this?

I posted the aforementioned message before I read this one. This is definitely interesting! thanks for the info!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Lost my Pup last month and struggled really hard for that first month. Stopped tracking intake and slid into old habits here and there. Also quit working out. Can't walk in the neighborhood because of all of the memories we shared. Losing my Pup is the most heartbreaking thing I've ever been through. My Pup was my world 💔
Talked to my doc during my one year followup and they were not worried about my current status. They know, and I know, that I will get back on track.
