Any night shifters out there...need suggestions

Recommended Posts

I will be going back to work in a week. I will be on regular foods at that point and would love some input/sample menus for my work days. Typical work day is i wake up around 4:30p and leave for work at 6p. Get off at 7a and head home to sleep by about 9-10a and do it all over again. Would LOVE some help from anyone with experiance.:biggrin0:

Do you typically eat multiple meals at work? I used to do grave shifts in nursing homes, and would rarely eat or enjoy mass amounts of vending machine food and diet coke.

Ah, I miss the 4 am Denny's runs after those "19-year-old male with profuse vomiting, alcohol ingestion" 911 calls!

These days, when I'm away at school all day, I pack hardboiled eggs, small yogurt containers, Protein shakes, and a couple of wheels of Babybel cheese - Gouda is my favorite, it's quite soft. I don't know if you are doing a low-carb thing, but I also like fruit. Right now, I've got plums and persimmons in the fridge.

I'm wondering how I'm going to do this too, especially the whole "small sips of Water all day" thing. I work graveyard in the lab, 10 hour shifts. We get 2-15 min breaks and a 30 min lunch. In reality I'm lucky to get 2 breaks. It's going to be a PITA to unglove/ungown/wash everytime I need to get a drink of water. I guess I will cross that bridge when I come to it. I'm thinking of telling my supervisor that I just need more, smaller breaks.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
