Late Night eating, and suggestions?

Recommended Posts

For years my husband never saw me take a bite of food because he would criticize me. We have cleared all that up and he is great now (we've been married 38 yrs now). I am a "night person" and no matter how early I get up I still stay up late. I used to eat after my husband went to bed and I still really want to snack late at night. That is so stupid! I know I'm not hungry but I still crave something to eat usually it is not something good for me. This in not a band thing it is a brain thing. When I was in WW my coach suggested I "replace" the activity of eating with another activity. So I replaced eating with "skin care rituals". My skin looked alright but the cravings were still there and I would usually satify them. That is why I'm here, banded, and still trying to overcome years of loving my late night friend, food! I would like to know if any of you have had this problem and how you deal with it. I can go all day and never feel hungry but then....!:phanvan I have done OK since my surgery but it seems to be getting harder. My Brain doesn't want SF Jello. It wants Cheeto's or something else that I will overeat. If anybody has any suggestions I will try anything!

WEll I AM NOT SURE THAT I CAN HELP BUT I LOVE TO EAT AT NIGHT AND BOY COULD I PACK IT AWAY AND STILL I EAT MORE IN 2 HOURS AT NIGHT THAN I DO ALL DAY...BUT I HEARD SOMEONE SAY THAT THEY PUT DOWN ON A PAPER OR IN A BOWL AND THEN THAT IS WHAT THEY EAT FOR THE DAY AND SO IF YOU SAVE IT THEN YOU COULD EAT IT.. ALSO I KNOW SOMEONE WHO ALLOWS THEMSELVE ONE BITE OF 2-3 THINGS AT NIGHT AND THEY SAY THE ONE BITE IS ENOUGH..

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
