i was sleeved on July 23rd at Vanderbilt. One week after being sleeved I found myself throwing up/dry heaving. i went back to Vandy and they checked my galll bladder. Gall Bladder had stones, gall bladder was then removed. Came home and started throwing up/dry heaving again. This has been going on since I was sleeved. My doctor told me yesterday that he has never seen this and he is at a loss for words. Uh excuse me I can't live like this. It can happen on somedays as many as 15 times a day to as little as 3 times a day. My Dr said he was going to call a surgeon in California who has perfomed over thousand of these surgeries until I hear from him I would like to know if anyone has heard of this or has it happened to. My doctor said he thought it sounded like stomach spasms that was making this happen but he is not for sure. Please if anyone knows of this happening to anyone else please get them to post on this blog.

I had several episodes of dry-heaving and vomiting (nothing but saliva and bile) last week, seemed to have no correlation to food. My surgeon requested an upper GI to rule out a diverticulum. Maybe you could mention that to your surgeon. He should've done an upper GI/barium swallow already, anyway, as it sheds light on a lot of potential issues.

Also, my dry-heaving seems to have vanished *knock on wood*, so yours may eventually subside, as well.

Thanks guys for your response. Yes I have already had a upper GI test done. It showed nothing wrong mechanically with my stomach and esophugus. Once again if anyone has any clues as to what I am going through please respoind.

That is miserable. I am so sorry to hear it. Is there any coorelation between your vomiting and certain foods or types of foods. It seems like only a remote possiblity based on what you're describing, but lots of people experience drastic changes in the way their body will tolerate foods post op. I really hope that you can find a solution soon.

I wonder if you should see a gastroenterologist in addition to your surgeon?

Take care and let us know your outcome,

Anna

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
