Is it possible to stretch your pouch so soon

Recommended Posts

I had my surgery last week, and am afraid I may have already stretched my pouch. I'm on Clear Liquids, I have 2 oz of broth and 2 oz of Jello for each meal with a sugar free popsicle in between meals.( That is what they were giving me in the hospital. My problem is I have been working so hard at getting my liquids and Protein down like this morning I mixed me a 6oz of Protein Drink and was able to drink it in 30 minutes, with no problem. So now I'm scared what if I already stretched out my pouch. :D

No, you haven't stretched your stomach. Your body is healing, and the initial trauma is subsiding.

The swelling will decrease with each passing day, and week. It sounds as if you one of the lucky ones that don't have a ton of swelling, and getting in your liquids/protein will be easier.

tiffykins, Thanks you have put my mind at ease. I was so worried. I'm going to work on drinking slower, but to get all the liquids and Protein in is a little much. Once again thank you at putting my mind at ease.

I feel like this every day! Some things just feel better than others. For example, if I have Soup -- I can certainly drink more than the 4oz they recommended. But, the other day my husband made some special grilled chicken wings and I was only able to eat 2!! So, it all depends what it is... But, I definitely feel this way often -- I think we all do in some way or another have a "fear" that things will return to status quo.

I too feel like Ive already messed up my pouch. Im 2 weeks out, I dont think I did well the second week as I was soo hungry I started on mushies earlier then my plan said. My stomach was not happy at all with this so now (thank godness) my hunger has subsided and Im going to do one week of liquids before I try mushies again. There were things I felt like didnt need blending so I just chewed chewed chewed but that was a huge mistake. I did this a least 3 times. Needless to say...it didnt stay. So Im gonna start over and do a week of liquids. Change is key. This is MAKING ME change. Whether I wnt to or not, I have too or Ill bee sick all the time. But since I did so badly my second week I wonder If I did damage to my sleeve.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
