One of my issues is that 8:30pm snack time... I'm hungry and worse.. I'm craving the worst stuff... ceral, bread, etc. I think its a combination of my PCOS, boredom and being tired (wanting energy.) By this point I've already worked out, put the kids to bed and want to spend time relaxing. I'd like to try some sort of hobby that keeps me engaged and out of the fridge. I'm thinking about knitting. Anyone else with this issue? Any other ideas on squashing the hunger bug?

I knit while watching tv/movies, it was automatic before to eat while staring at the screen so I give my hands something to do. I also drink strongly flavored (decaf) tea, that way I get to taste something and give my mouth something to do. If you want carbless (darn near) carbs to satisfy the carb monster that won't make you feel guilty, go to "theworldaccordingtoeggface" blog, she has amazing recipes for Protein cakes and crustless quiches and protein ice cream, not to mention a list of 50 things to do instead of snacking!!

Hobbies are a great way of taking your mind off food; I like to draw, this gives me a sense of satisfaction when I have finished. I also play word games on line such as scrabble... both ot these help me take my mind of food and the feeling of hunger be in real or in my head...

Good luck with your hobbie x

I love to knit while I watch tv at night (I even do it with company over - I just knit and enjoy the conversation. Just don't do a hard pattern with people over - you may be surprised at what it looks like!)

Knitting definitely keeps the hands busy. And, you don't want to ruin your projects by dropping food on them.

I love to knit too. I take it with me when I visit friends. Took it to jury duty recently and knitted all day in the central jury room. When I use a complicated pattern it is almost a meditative experience for me. So focused I shut all else out. Crocheting and embroidery are good too but I mostly knit now. I think its fun and satisfying to produce a scarf, cap, and I LOVE to knit or crochet baby booties. The crochet guild here has members donate preemie caps and blankets for a local hospital. One year we won volunteers of the year award. You can also knit socks and caps for soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan. Sorry to run on. Knitting is great. Talk about a positive substitute addiction. This is a great one

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
