looking for a snack

Recommended Posts

A snack that is: 1)relatively high in Protein 2)relatively low in calorie and carbs 3)not beef Jerky or cheese and 4)can be ordered online.

Ideas? Anybody? People have already given me SF hard candy ideas, and I'm going to look up almonds to see which package is best.

Er, seriously? Isn't that like a salty greasy fried snack? And aren't they puffed full of air? How many constitutes a serving?

Pork rinds were one of the FEW foods I did not eat pre-op but I love them now! I love to heat them up in the microwave. Do not heat them in plastic or on a paper plate though, I about ran everyone out of the conference room at work two days last week while I was having my daily pork rind fest!

Every day I eat at least one Premier Protein bar (I buy them at costco and I know Sam's Club also has them). They have 30grams of Protein, 7grams of fat and 280 calories. I tried a bunch of Protein Bars and these are my favorite with the highest amount of protein.

You don't buy it on-line, but I make my own hummus to eat with Wheat Thins. You can flavor it a lot of ways (extra garlic, hot sauce, chives, etc.). It provides protein and Fiber.

I wish I could get my hands on some garlicky hummus, I wouldn't even need the cracker!

Okay, I hit the motherload!! I went to drugstore.com and typed in almonds. Planter's brand has a whole line called "flavor grove" of roasted and flavored almonds; chili lime, olive oil & sea salt, cracked black pepper onion & garlic, sign me up!! Then Blue Diamond brand has some dessert ones, I'm getting natural oven roasted almonds-butter toffee!!!!!!!!:D

I looked at the nutritional value, I thought if they taste that good they must be loaded with secret bad for you ingredients and have off the charts calories. Nope!! Better Protein and potassium in a 1 ounce serving than half a banana, about 100 calories - wahoo!! And one ounce is about 28 nuts, that's a lot of nuts!! I think I could eat 10.

Globe, here's my experience with nuts. Simply, they have become my sleeve crack! Almonds are not my favorites but I would about crawl around on the floor searching for cashew crumbs! It's ridiculous and it stalled my weightloss for about a month until I finally admitted to myself that eating a can of "healthy" nut Snacks per day just might be a problem... So, i haven't quit cashews entirely but I only buy single 1.5 oz packs and don't keep them in my home. I have to physically leave my home and go hunt them down on the base somewhere - either in my truck, at the laundry area, in my office, in my hub's office, etc. Pretty pathetic, huh?? I'm laughing at myself reading this... Anyway, 22 nuts goes FAST as time progresses and the carbs do add up, trust me. As you know, I could give a flip about the fat. Brazil nuts are very low in carbs too and yummy. And large. Stupid cashews... Oh yeah, I also started buying deluxe mixed nuts (no peanuts) so I would be tempted by fewer cashews and more influenced by the better nuts in the bunch. Good luck. Be aware, be very, very aware...

I'm with you. Cashews are most of my lunch. I fill up a small ramekins with them. I try to only do that once a day. But, sometimes it' twice a day. And, i have to admit that I have put the whole jar there and went threw half of it. I am sure they are what contributed to my stall. But, they are my go to snack. The best are the Walgreens Colossal. I go through 1 1/2 cans a week. Bad boy.

You can buy the crackers made from nuts instead of wheat and I used to make a crab spread with a few of those crackers when I needed an energy boost when nursing my little one. Hummus is good on them too!

I love the Oh Yeah Protein bars that you order from vita cost.com.I love the Peanut Butter and chocolate and the chocolate mint.

They are 15 grams of Protein and I believe 7 grams of carbs. I am also a big fan of the Premeir ones from costco already mentioned.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
