finally found a way to tolerate my protein drink but =(

Recommended Posts

Soooo.... I wasn't doing too good with my Protein Drink in the beginning because I could not tolerate the drinks. I've tried sooo many brands and all GROSS to me! so then I found that if I take a Protein powder (just a cheap $20 from walmart) and mix it in the blender with a tiny bit of Decaf coffee and half a splenda, ice cubes, or just a couple frozen strawberries and almond milk then it takes pretty good. However, almond mink has 25 grams of fat per serving, and i drink 1 in a half servings! I hadn't even realized that just for Breakfast itself I was having about 40 grams of fat!! and supposedly I've heard to stay under 30 grams A DAY! Which to me is impossible! I don't know how people do it because EVERYTHING has fat!

I tried non fat milk and I went back to not being able to tolerate the drink. what to do what to do.....? protein or fat?! UGHHHH!

Why must milk be so FAT! Tomorrow I will attempt to have my drink with nonfat milk AGAIN....

How do you guys get in less than 30 grams of fat a day?!

did you find something that worked? I would love to hear what others might say. I am suppossed to be replacing 1-2 meals with a Protein drink until my insurance problems are straightened out. I find that if I put in a nonfat milk and yogurt/greek yogurt or nonfat milk and a scoop of powdered nonfat milk - it has a good consistency. I am not sure about the fat content though. I will have to take a look.

I was also going to say.. I like the nectar Protein mixes with other drinks, like a half scoop of tea flavor mixed with tea, or the cherry mixed with any sugar free kool-aide/crystal light. I also like the cherry with fruit, ice, splenda, and/or yogurt for a smoothie.< /p>

I like the muscle milk light premade Protein Drinks. I put them in the freezer about 20 minutes before I drink them because I like them extremely cold. The vanilla creme one is like heaven to me (i love vanilla anything). The chocolate is pretty good too. 100 calories and 21 grams of Protein in each I think. You can get them in Walmart the cheapest.

I make mine with hood carb countdown milk and it is low fat. Soy Slender is low fat too. Both of those make the Protein drinks taste so much better. Soy Slender is found on the shelf not in the fridge.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
