Can you feel your port

Recommended Posts

Left lower rib cage. Sticks out far. Hurts when I surf. People ask about it when they see my stomach. I tell them I was stabbed. Dates get grossed out and never touch that area again. I let my niece and nephew touch it for the EEEWWW factor.

Yep, I can feel mine....since the day of surgery. Mine is located about maybe 3 inches down from the bottom of my sternum. Has never bothered me unless I bump it. I catch myself touching it or rubbing on it...kind of like when I was pregnant and I would rub my belly without thinking about it! I guess you could say my port is my new baby...:biggrin1: ! Weird? ;)

Can anyone feel their port under the skin. I am now getting worried as I don't like needles and when it comes to my first fill, and they cant find the port I will panic.

:help:

I thought I could feel mine but my doctor said it is scar tissue. I actually had my very first fill this morning! He could not find my port at first. It took him a long time, but he found it. Luckily, even though he struggled hard to get that fill in, it was all PAINLESS to me. I hope your experience will be as well. Don't worry, your doctor will find your port too!

I have been able to feel mine from about 1 week post-op, when I "discovered" it...neat! It's small, round, smooth, like a button under my skin at my waistline (just above) on the left side below my ribs.

BUT! Get this!

Can anyone feel the stem of the port? You know, the part that comes out of the side, that the tubing gets attached to? I SWEAR! and I could be wrong, I can feel the port stem running UP toward my ribcage, like it's tucked between some ab muscle striation, or something. Is this possible? Look at the pic of the abnd and port (I went to Inamed.com to get a better pic) and the port is kind of like a lollipop. Well, the stick is what I can feel under my skin, running upward from the button. It's almost like a hard vein, and there's not a similar anything on the right side, so it's not something anatomical...at least symmetrical, anyway. That's the only thing I can think of...could I have lost enough weight and done enough crunches (not!) to be able to feel the port stem?

Anyone? How crazy am I?!

I can feel my port too (and was banded on the same day as you - AND am a Deb too! ) It creeps me out when I feel it - not sure why I keep touching it, but I do. I get my first fill on Thurs the 22 of June. I hope all goes well.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
