Hi  to all,

My name is Shelley and I'm will be having my surgery soon,I have a date set for Oct 12th but I may move it to Nov.Dont know what I'm going to do.....Im stuck between having the sleeve or lapband done??!! Im 34 and no kids due to weight and PCOS,Dr advised me that I need to get weight off and it will help with PCOS and having kids. Here is where the problem is......I want to have the sleeve done cause....

1.dont have to go back for fills(drs office is 1hr 30 away)

2.dont have to worry about band slipping

3.with the band I can have it loosened while PG,with the sleeve I have to worry about the baby and myself getting enough food

so I have no clue what Im going to do....any help will be great!!

While I have no personal experience with pregnancy and VSG, I have seen several members have successful pregnancies. I suggest doing a search for baby or pregnant to see their stories.

I have asked same questions in that group and no one has answered me....so I thought I would try here:glare:

My surgeon explained to me that the sleeve would not cause problems during your pregnancy. The baby will receive everything the baby needs to grow strong. I know one person who had the band and had to have it removed due to complications.

I agree completely w/ your reasons for VSG vs Band. And although it is not recommended to get pregnant until you are at least 1 yr post VSG, people have done it successfully. Someone on either this board or OH forum mentioned a good point: during times of famine, many people had successful pregnancies.

From everything that I saw with regards to the band from the surgeons at Kaiser, I would NEVER consider the band. Take a look at how many on this forum alone are band to sleeve revisions. Too many problems with the band. Lots of success with the sleeve.

Read my blog, I have tons of info for the band and the sleeve, plus my own personal story with the band.

If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to send me a message on here.

I answered your other post regarding pregnancy and VSG as well.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
