Looking for high protein meal recipes

Recommended Posts

I am five weeks post surgery now, and enjoy eating easy-to-chew foods. I focus on eating high Protein foods such as cottage cheese, egg beaters with low-fat cheese, turkey bacon (not crispy), tuna, deli chicken and turkey, tilapia, grilled chicken strips, and white chicken chili. One day I cooked one pound of low-fat hamburger with onions and two cans of baked Beans. That gave me eight 6 oz. meals. I am looking for more high protein recipes that I can cook up on my days off. I don't want to get bored with my current selections and be tempted back into unhealthy foods. So, if any of you know of websites or cookbooks, or if you have your own favorite recipes, please share them. My restrictions are that they be high protein, low fat, low sugar and moderately spiced because of heart burn issues.

Gratefully,

Steve

I am not sure if you have gone to "The World According to Eggface" yet, but her site has some tasty recipes and info. You can look at past issues too for more..

Yes, The World According to Eggface is an awesome blog. Her "bites" recipes are especially awesome.

As far as cookbooks, I have found diabetic cookbooks to be the best choice because they are high Protein, low carb, and pretty decent on fat and calories. They always include the nutrition info also, which most recipe books don't (unless they are for dieters). There are also specific post weight loss surgery cookbooks out there.

I just searched Amazon and read reviews... I also found one diabetic cookbook in the discounted section at B&N that I like. If you are really interested I'll grab all the books out of my cupboard and give you the titles.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
