70# lost is there more to go?

Recommended Posts

I had my surgery in Mexico and my Doctor here told me it is her experience that the average amount of weight loss will be 60-70 pds.

I am finally at 70 but have been at a stall for 1-1/2 mo. I am wondering if maybe my doctor is right. I still want to lose 20pds. Has anyone else ever heard of this?

Starting to feel a little bummed!

Hi there, It has been a while since a I have been on the boards...

My wife and I were sleeved March 16th.

I am down 68 lbs. and my wife 36, so it sounds you are doing very well!

I started at 341 and am at 272.5 now. My wife 241 and now 205.

I have about 60 lbs. to go. We have not been strict with our diet at all. We do eat healthy but I probably take in 1200 to 1500 cal each days.

It sounds as if you have just hit a stall.

You will start to lose again soon. How far yet have you to go?

All the best Russ

There is no way that 60-70lbs lost is the "norm" for VSG unless all of her patients have the same amount of weight to lose.

If you still want to lose, shake up your diet, increase calories and Protein, cut some carbs out, increase Fluid intake, and increase activity level. It's harder to lose those last few pounds, but it's not impossible.

I'm not saying your doctor is wrong, but it's been proven on this forum, and many others, that 60-70lb loss is not the "average" weight loss for sleeve patients. I lost over twice that amount with VSG alone, and could continue to lose weight if I wanted to do so.

Go back to the basics, plan meals, track your intake and exercise, modify everything to get the scale moving again.

I am a big believer in logging what I eat.....I use fitday.com and log everything daily. I want to know the calories and the protein....but it also gives me the carbs and fat of what I eat every day. Some might say I'm a bit "obsessive" about it. LOL I am also obsessive about what I PUT IN MY MOUTH.....Hey, we've gone through a lot, right? It isn't like we're going to weekly weight watchers meetings....when I made the decision to do this....I made it in Dec '09 and researched it and followed these forums for months before surgery in June. I was self pay, so I wanted to make sure I was doing the right thing. I want the best outcome and I know it is a tool, not a magic bullet, although, after four months, dang, it sure feels like one some times! I love my sleeve!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
