Recommended Posts

I'm gettin sleeved on Oct. 8th!! I'm nervous and excited. I have been doing really well on my pre-op diet. My doc asked me to loose 5-10 lbs and I managed to loose 7 lbs...it's been hard but worth it!

Congratulations,

Post op Day 1. I have 10 days left until I get sleeved.

Hi Everyone

Even though I was starting a cold the day before surgery I was able to have my operation. This was due to the cold not being on my chest so made it okay to have the op.

My first 36 hours for me were very very tough for me. This was because it was hard to get my pain under control and I also didnt sleep the first night due to the 'Night Terrors' , as one of my doctors desribed it. This can happen when people who use CPAP machine for sleep apnea. When I returned from surgery the nurses forgot to set up my CPAP machine for me to use. This resulted in the night terrors as everytime I was about to sleep I was jolted awake again by my body, due to sleep apnea. I wouldn't want this to happen to anyone, so if you are reading this and have a CPAP machine dont forget to remind the nurses how important it is for you to use it. And for them to put your mask on you if you are still not with it after surgery.

I wish everyone every success with their operations.

Take care

Sue

Hello everyone,

I had my gastric sleeve plication on the 6th. I was pretty nervous. I hadn't ever had surgery and had no idea what to expect. Also, I had the surgery in Tijuana and I must admit I had safety and hygiene concerns. Finally, the plication procedure is pretty new and, despite the fact that I had done extensive research, I feared that the surgeons would make errors.

Well, I'm very pleased to report that, so far, so good. I was up and walking within about 20 minutes of the surgery. The next day, I was sore, but feeling relatively energetic. I took a pretty long walk without any problems. I've been sipping on liquids, a Protein Drink, some broth - and am tolerating all. All of my post-op tests have been good. Today, I'm still sore, but took a good walk. Like many of you have noted, removing the drain was the most actively painful part of the procedure.

I'm taking good care of myself and trust that all will continue to go well. I hope that those of you are are receiving surgery later this month also have an experience that has been as uneventful and relatively easy as mine has been. Good luck to all!

Hi All,

Just finished my pre-op appt at the hospital for all the final tests (blood work, pulmonary function, cardiologist, etc). One last appt on Oct 14 with the surgeon, then surgery on Oct 19th. I have gone from nervous to excited and back again three or four times; right now I can say I am absolutely psyched and ready to get this thing going. I have also been on liquids since Oct 5 (Premier Protein Shakes from costco, chicken Brothn and sugar free Jello). I have to say I am REALLY suprised. I am not suffering the cravings or feeling like cheating at all. I imagine pacing out the shakes, broth, and Jello throughout the day (and chewing lots of sugar free gum) is helping keep the cravings away.

Best of luck to all of you fellow October sleevers!

My date is also Oct. 11th. I am emotionally ready I think. My pre-op diet is playing havoc w/ my blood sugar, but my diabetes is the main reason I'm having the surgery. At the rate I'm going, I will weigh under 200lbs when I go into surgery. My son is freaking out because he thinks I can just continue to lose weight on my own and not have the surgery. I know myself and I will not be able to maintain this. After nearly 30 years of being obese to morbidly obese, I am ready for this. Glad that I do not have to go out of country for surgery, but wish you the very best. Dr. Aceves ? must be really great based on all the posts on this site. Wishing the best for you and may God bless.

Had my sleeve on Monday!! It went so well. I stayed an extra day in the hospital, but no real problems. Am having some problems with pain today, but nothing unbearable. Amazingly, I have had no diabetes meds since Sunday the 10th and my sugar levels are completely normal!!! Praise God. This is why I had the surgery. Can't wait until things return to "normal" and I can get on with life. I underestimated how much time it would take for me to feel okay. Just gotta take it slow for another week. Good luck to all of you who are still waiting.

Thanks for all your prayers. Got home a few days ago. I am tired and very sore! I was shocked on how hard it was going to be. The day of surgery I was so out of it that I couldn't keep my eyes open. Slept alot with lots of pain meds but was up walking a couple of times. The next day the nausea was pretty bad so it was nausea meds alot. I came home on Friday. I have tried hard to get liquids in and that is hard. Just got to keep at it. Today seems to be a bit better with liquids. Eating is no big deal. Can or don't have too. I am not getting enough Protein in but working on it. Hope all is going well for everyone right now.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
