Eating Out Wisdom to Share with my Boyfriend

Recommended Posts

HI! My surgery is in 20 days now. YAY! So my boyfriend (who is stick thin...I actually just calculated his BMI and he comes in just in the underweight category) is supportive of my surgery (I don't think he fully understands it..as in why and how I won't starve to death) but he is supportive. However he seems to have this idea stuck in his head that we will never be able to go out to eat again. I have tried to tell him many times we can still go out that I just have to make healthier choices and won't be able to eat as much. He interrupts this as I will eat two bites be full and just sit there and wait for him to finish his food and be bored. I tell him as long as we are hanging out I don't care and that I have to eat slow and can't inhale my food. Despite eating a few bites he still may be be waiting for ME to finish. Anyone have any nuggets of wisdom I can share with him to assure him we can still go out to eat and all that jazz?

Thanks!:001_cool:

I'll be interested to see any replies on this one, as I have exactly the same issue with my boyfriend who is also very slim.

Not long to go Staysea! :001_cool:

-You will find yourself more interested in conversation.

-When you go out it will be more "quality time" because you can focus on him instead of the food.

-You'll be able to go out AFTER dinner instead of him having to help you home in a wheelbarrow cuz your stuffed.

-You can share a meal with him or order an appetizer which means there will be more money to do other fun things.

That's true...my boyfriend would always pay for both of our meals when we went out. Now I've told him to put away $20 every time I don't order anything and $10 every time I order an appetizer and put it towards our vacation in Europe next summer. I expect a free trip, lol.

How about appealing to his greedy side (as Dr Phil may say) tell him you'll eat less, have more energy and look sexier and when you get home won't be too stuffed if you know what I mean

Thanks for the ideas guys! I have tried telling him we will save money on our food budget since I will eat so little. That we can just order one dish. I will have to remind him how we are saving for a REAL vacation. Less money spent eating out = more $$$$ towards vacation!:)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
