I have been lurking here on the boards for the past few months, but I actually registered yesterday.

At last, my VSG surgery date has been set for October 7, 2010!

Last December, a coworker referred me to her doctor who had approved her for lapband surgery. After six months of weightloss tracking and regular visits, my primary care physician approved a referral for lap band, but after my initial consultation with the surgeon and researching the sleeve on this site and others, I decided that the sleeve was a better option for me. Well, after jumping through a few more hoops, the medical group ended up still denying to pay for the sleeve, and since I have an HMO, I thought my journey had ended unless I went with the band. Before I even asked, my surgeon's office sent a request directly to Blue Shield, and I was approved! Luckily, Blue Shield CA started covering the sleeve this past July.

I am so excited!

Lurk no more! Jump on in, October will really be here soon. I did lots of homework on each surgery and they all have pros and cons but for ME this was the only way to go. I am at a place where I 90% of the time eat healthful whole foods, but the cool thing about this surgery is that I am capable of eating everything I ate before, but in small amounts. And the weird thing for me is that once I've eaten it I'm usually just fine. I used to obsess if there were leftovers from the restraunt in my fridge not any more. It is amazing to me.

This will be your last year of not getting to wear the cute Halloween costume! Welcome aboard!

Anna

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
