Just finished my sleep study - ugh

Recommended Posts

I got there on time, but some guy before me had ordered some equipment and was standing at the counter arguing with the lady for over an hour. He insisted that she shred his credit card information and form that he filled out, then hand him the shreddings. :confused1:

After another 30 minutes of her calling the boss to cover her ass, I finally got into my "room" and hooked up. When they say "like a hotel room", it's just a bed, TV and fan. Their satellite didn't work, so when I tried changing the channel it said "updating from satellite" forever. So no TV for me. There was a shower down the hall, but it was really gross so I didn't bother.

The hookup process took 30 minutes, and involved her putting some medical goo all over my face and hair, then attaching about 50 electrodes. They measure your head, and put little X's all over it like a treasure map. Some are stuck right next to your eye, so you can't sleep on that side or it pokes you in the eyeball when you lay on your side.

Once done, I was laid in bed and couldn't do squat except sleep. It's like being in a full body cast... :scared0: She jacked the fan on HIGH and turned the light off before leaving. It was colder than a freezer in the room, which was awesome. I'm sure the 3 other fat guys taking the study next to me were happy too (it's hot outside).

Of course, I can't sleep with all this sh*t on me. Especially the one covering my nose. This study is supposed to determine if I have trouble breathing, but then they have this huge device right under your nose. NOW I HAVE TROUBLE BREATHING, THANKS. My big wad of wires kept getting disconnected, so they came in several times to fix it.

They poked me awake at 5am (on a Sunday, ugh) and removed all the electrodes, leaving this sticky medical goo all over my face and head. Plus my forehead now looks like a pirate's hidden treasure map. I had to fill out five forms asking if I snored (how am I supposed to know?) and such, then left.

LOL sleep studies are interesting ha? I had mine 8 years ago and i only slept 77 minutes total, cause of all the sh_t on me like you stated. oh well that was enough time forthem to diagnose me with sleep apnea. some of the questions they are -do you snore, are really for your partner to be able to answer......keep jumping the hurdles, cause that is just one day closer to getting it approved good luck to you

That is so funny it sounds like my sleep study only the place I had it at was very nice room with atttached bathroom and shower. It was just like a hotel they gave juice and snack. I had to go back for a 2nd night because I did not sleep long enough the 1st nigth. It was oh so much fun.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
