Hey there! My name is Kris. Just joined. I had my sleeve done this past Tuesday (8-24-10). I've already lost nine lbs! I can't believe how good I feel this soon after surgery. I have a little tenderness in one spot where I had a drainage tube but other than that I don't feel like I've had surgery. I have had a little heart burn a couple times a day, not sure if this is normal. My surgeon was Dr. Merriman of Shreveport Surgical Specialists. I've been walking up and down my street at night. I feel like I could walk further but I'm not sure how far would be over-doing it. Before surgery I was walking 3 miles 3 times a week.Pre-op I weighed 271. I was so excited before I started this journey, I can't believe I'm even more excited now. A little about myself... I'm 28. Married for 7 years to my highschool sweetheart Justin. My husband is in the Army and we live at Fort Polk. We have an awesome 8y/o daughter. I am employed by the Department of Defense and work at the Army Hospital here on post in the ER. My husband is the SGT of the ER. Four of my co-workers have had the sleeve in the last six months and all of them inspire me every day. I start back to work on Monday. Some people are telling me this is to soon, but I feel great and my job isn't to high impact. As soon as I figure out how to add some pics I will.

Hi KrisSee - Congrats, you're doing great! I got my sleeve June 11th - like you, I was basically pain free from the beginning!! I felt great. I took a nap in the afternoon for about two weeks, but my doctor recommended "scheduled' rest every day like that! I lost 23 lbs pre-op and as of last Friday I've lost 56 lbs total. I haven't been hungry since surgery, it is soooo weird. About a month ago I started feeling what I call an empty feeling occasionally and I think that is probably my new hunger, but it is NOT hunger at all...nothing where I feel like I need to go eat. I could totally never eat, at least that is what I feel like. I hope it stays like this forever!! Many people experience 'head hunger' - I do not. Things taste and smell good to me...look good to me, but nothing makes me feel hungry or makes me want to eat. I am lucky in that respect. This has been the best decision I've ever made for myself and so far, it's been a breeze. I wish that for you!!! I am NOT exercising like I should, but I am getting on our Airdyne bike a few times a week an riding it a couple of miles. I park out in parking lots waaaay far and walk in...I do not take the easy routes, I figure every step counts! =) Good luck and get in your Protein as soon as you can, and keep hydrated!

What an awesome beginning to your new story!

Heartburn is very normal, many of us take ppi's from the first 3 months-1 year. It really helps alleviate both the heartburn and a weird sensation that most people call "false hunger."

And if you are ready to go to work, you go! You are the one walking around in that body and you know whats best for you. It is awesome to read about your start keep on posting!

Well I'm sitting here at work. Third day back...day 8 after surgery. The first day was kinda hard. I only got four hours of sleep. My fault. I am addicted to romance novels and couldn't put it down until I finished it. It was super busy and by the time I got home I was really tired. I was walking non-stop. I told my husband...I'm not going for my nightly walk tonight...and I after all this walking I better have lost five lbs! Lol. Caught up on my sleep though and I'm still feeling amazingly good. I appreciate everyones comments. This website is great! I'm down 14lbs as of today. First post op visit is next Thursday. I got to start full liquids today. Right after my sleeve my chest hurt whenever I swallowed anything. That's almost gone. Hope ya'll have a good night...I'm about to go home and have some protien and start a new book.

Hi Kris! You are doing so well with your sleeve so far! I also have a huge love for romance novels and staying up late at night to finish them. It's made for plenty of sleepy days at work! I hope your appointment goes well on Thursday, and glad you're feeling well. Congratulations on the weight loss! 14 lbs is awesome so far!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
