JulyBride 0 Posted August 28, 2010 My doctor perscribed me a pill for heart burn but I can not take pills until 2 months so I have to mix the powder with something. I have found chocolate pudding is the best. I really don't want to eat the pudding any more but when I skip the pill for a while I end up with heart burn bad. Does anyone have any suggestions for over the counter meds that do not have to be mixed?
Tiffykins 673 Posted August 28, 2010 It depends on what you've been prescribed. If it's a PPI, you have to take it on an empty stomach for it to work. If you're mixing it with pudding, it's not going to work as well if it goes in on an empty stomach. Gaviscon can be used and is often recommended when people want to wean off their acid reflux medication. With Nexium, Prevacid, and Prilosec, it's labeled to take on an empty stomach and wait a minimum of 30 minutes before eating anything.
Shana 3 Posted August 28, 2010 I am just curious. Did you have reflux before your surgery? I have the band and my reflux has gotten so bad that I am having to have the band taken out and I am getting the sleeve done on Monday. My surgeon said that my reflux would improve. JulyBride 0 Posted September 1, 2010 I had reflux before the surgery but very minor. Two Tums would take care of it. I have been trying to keep track. The meds the doc gave me almost instantly work when I mix it with pudding. I am trying to only take it every few days to keep the reflux at bay. I don't need it every day at all. I just don't like wasting part of my food intake right now on the pudding but the powder doesn't dissolve and it tastes bad mixed with anything else I've tried.
