So.... they want the surgeon to perform the surgery then you leave the hospital the same day? That's ridiculous in my books. I know some people here on this web site who stayed in the hopsital a couple of nights, but I think there have been people who were in and out too. I myself personally stayed one night and I was thankful for that. I was hook up to all kinds of monitors and had a morphine and IV drips and an oxygen mask. I had a blood glusose finger stick every four hours. The nurses also came in every two hours to check my vitals, blood pressure... etc., my drain and to measure my pee output from the catheter. Also to give me ice chips and most important to me they give me my injections of hepria a blood thinner so I would not get blood clots. Plus the next day I had my 2nd leak test done at the hospital. As it was I did have a problem the next day as my postassium levels became to high from the IV fuilds they were feeding me, but they quickly got that under control. I can not imagine having major surgery at let's say 7:30 that moring and leaving the hospital by 3 or 4 that afternoon or even later. That's my experience maybe someone who didn't have a stay in the hospital can speak. Wishing you the best.

When my surgery was approved by Aetna, I was also approved for up to three days in the hospital. Did they give a reason for the denial?

Appeal. Have your doctor submit a letter. I have heard these insurance companies usually give in by third appeal. Sometimes, even on the first one! Good luck!!

Call and talk to them. They started approving the sleeve sometime back in April, I think. They may not have updated the bulletins on the website yet. My sleeve was approved on first submittal back in July.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
