Have you heard about Vergito?

Recommended Posts

I have heard of it, in fact I was gung ho to have the vergito several years ago when I first made the decision to begin educating myself about wls. He has changed locations from California to, I think, Kentucky? Also, his website has not provided further information in the 4 years since they first offered the concept.

I've read about it, and never considered it for my own personal needs/wants from WLS. He's pretty awesome from my research as a bariatric surgeon. Last I heard, he's moving to AZ.

You know what? I went to a seminar Husted put on here in AZ in May. He had the vergito on his slides but he glossed over it very fast as if he really didn't want to talk about it. I think I remember on OH that he had a patient who was really unhappy with his. That may be why. Timing? Anyway, yes, he's in AZ now. I was going to go with him but it took him forever to get privileges here. I couldn't wait any longer. In the meatime, I found Dr. Aceves who in my opinion is just as good a surgeon. I was a private pay anyway, so I ended up saving 60% of the cost of Dr. Husted, got 3 days in the hospital, great care, great follow up and my complication was covered, which wouldn't have been in a US hospital. BTW, my complication was not the fault of anyone. I had pneumonia and a partially collapsed lung. I have crappy lungs but we all did everything right. It's just one of those things that can go wrong even if you do everything right. Overall, I would do it again in Mexicali with Dr. Aceves' team in a heart beat. He has done 1000+ sleeves, no leaks and specializes in the bypass. But I am here to tell you, I am happy with my sleeve.

LOL, I've been the proud owner of a VSG for 6 weeks now, so it's not like I'm going to have the vergito procedure...just hadn't heard of it before.

The metabolic surgeries are fascinating to me. I'm wondering about studies, efficacy, long-term benefits, side effects, increased risks, etc.

How long has vergito been done? Surely there are more than Dr. Husted who do this surgery?

I am not sure. He very well may be the only one. All I know is that the more I learned about the malabsorptive surgeries, the less I wanted one. For me, the only one that really made sense was the sleeve. And I am so happy with it so far. I have no regrets except for one: wish I had done it sooner.

This sounds like a really cool procedure. I was really interested in that part about removing the fat pad from inside the abdomen. Good lord I wish someone would remove my stomach fat pad! :lol0: I also thought it was cool as an option for revising VSGs - not that I've really heard of more than a couple of folks who might need their VSG revised vs the many bypass and band patients who need revisions.

I'm very intrigued by the fact that it's actually "old" info and that he doesn't seem to be promoting it. I wonder what has ended up being the "catch" to this procedure that has possibly caused it to fade out.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
